GM China Sales Down 22 Percent In Fourth Quarter 2022

GM China sales decreased 22 percent to 575,600 units during the fourth quarter 2022. Sales decreased at the Buick, Chevrolet, Wuling and Baojun brands, while increasing at Cadillac.

SAIC-GM Sales – Q4 2022

Fourth quarter 2022 sales at SAIC-GM – GM’s primary joint venture in China responsible for Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac operations – decreased 10.55 percent to 271,000 units:

Buick sales decreased 16.0 percent to 167,500 units

  • The Envision Plus midsize crossover saw a three-fold sales growth year-over-year
  • The all-new GL8 Century flagship MPV was launched during the quarter to solidify the brand’s longstanding leadership in the segment
  • The Velite EV family also posted strong growth, with sales surging 42 percent year-over-year

Buick Envision Plus

Chevrolet sales decreased 4.2 percent to 50,300 units

  • The Chevy Monza remained the brand’s best-selling nameplate in China
  • Sales of the Chevy Menlo EV more than doubled from a year earlier
  • The Bowtie continued to bolster its crossover offensive through the introduction of Tracker RS and all-new Seeker

Cadillac sales increased 4.3 percent to 53,200 units

  • The Cadillac CT5 remained strong as sales grew 8.7 percent from a year earlier, sustaining its position as the brand’s top-selling model in China
  • Deliveries of the all-new Cadillac Lyriq EV started in September, with the electric crossover gaining in customer popularity

SAIC-GM-Wuling Sales – Q4 2022

Fourth quarter 2022 sales at SAIC-GM-Wuling – GM’s other Chinese joint venture responsible for Wuling and Baojun brands – decreased 29.85 percent to 304,600 units:

Baojun sales decreased 76.2 percent to 7,900 units

  • GM did not provide any additional information about Baojun’s plummeting sales
  • GM’s youngest brand in China continues to lose volume, accumulating several consecutive quarters with drastic falls

Wuling sales decreased 26.0 percent to 296,700 units

  • The Wuling Mini EV remained China’s best-selling electric vehicle
  • The new family with the silver badge – the Asta, Jia Chen MPV and Xing Chi – posted robust sales growth, with combined deliveries surpassing 125,000 units during the quarter
  • Hybrid electric vehicle technology that introduced on the Asta HEV variant will be rolled out to more models this year

Wuling MINI EV

During the complete 2022 calendar year, GM China sales decreased 20.4 percent to 2,303,100 units.
