The GM Authority Take

After experiencing a brief pause from declining sales in September and October, Chevrolet Korea sales returned to experience another decline in November. Chevrolet’s contraction saw sales volume drop significantly compared to the previous two months, when the Bow Tie brand averaged about 4,000 units. As such, the November record represents a loss of over 2,000 units month-over-month.

Most of the brand’s models saw notable declines in the South Korean market during the past month, led by the Chevy Spark and Malibu, which fared the worst. Despite the healthy increase of the best-selling Chevy Trailblazer on a year-over-year, the subcompact crossover’s 758 deliveries in November were only about half its average in previous months. The decline is likely the result of newfound difficulties in local production of the small crossover.

In addition, the new Chevy Bolt EUV lost the significant momentum it experiencing in South Korea, going from selling a record-setting 908 units in October to only 47 in November. Something similar also happened with the Bolt EV, which had a loss of 160 units month-over-month. For its part, the Chevy Colorado posted an uptick in sales with a triple-digit growth rate.

  1. Here in Korea, standby demand for Bolt EUV and EV reaches 10,000 units. Why doesn’t GM produce bolt EUV in Korea factory? Making the quantity sold in Korea at a Korean factory will also help the company’s profits. What’s the point of importing Bolt EUV from the U.S. and selling only a few dozen of them to Korea every month? There are a lot of customers waiting to get a car after signing a contract. In Korea, there is also an LG factory that makes batteries for Bolt, so it is easy to supply parts.
