About Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 arrived as the fourth model year of the fourth-generation nameplate, introducing a few changes and updates over the refreshed 2022 Silverado. One such change is that 2023 Silverado Duramax models will be equipped with the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 engine turbodiesel “baby Duramax,” replacing the 3.0L I6 LM2.

The big news for 2023 is the introduction of the even more off-road capable, first-ever 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison.

Check out all the changes and updates for the 2023 Silverado.

This past November, the 2023 Chevy Silverado rated poorly in updated IIHS crash tests, specifically back-seat safety.

For 2024, the Chevy Silverado 2.7L engine is called TurboMax. Also, the 2024 Silverado ZR2 offers the LZ0 Duramax diesel engine to provide more low-end torque while off-roading, joining the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine for available powerplants.

Also, the 2024 Silverado 1500 offers a new drop-in bedliner. Additionally, the 2024 Silverado ZR2 is available with new beadlock-capable wheels.

Here’s everything that’s new and different with the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500.

Pricing details for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 show that, compared to the previous model year, WT trims are now $500 more expensive, High Country trims are now $600 more expensive, and ZR2 and ZR2 Bison prices are down $1,600. The price drop for ZR2 and ZR2 Bison models is due to the fact that the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine is now fitted as standard, whereas the more-expensive naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine was the exclusive powertrain offered, which is now optional.

In August, the 2024 Silverado 1500 received a destination freight charge increase of $100 to bump the total to $1,995.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 now offers a ZR2 Spec Multimatic DSSV Shock System accessory for the 2019 model year or later Silverado 1500, with a design and tuning intended to provide the truck with improved off-road performance.

The online configurator tool is live for the 2024 Silverado and still live for the 2023 Silverado.

  1. I was looking online last night and there are many of these Silverados sitting on the dealer lots around here. Most are 4-cyl. Customs with black wheels that no one wants. I saw a lot of RWD regular cab short beds with 4-cylinders. If they offered that truck with a 5.3 or 3.0 engine, GM wouldn’t be able to build them fast enough for the demand and I would already own one, but GM isn’t that smart right now and doesn’t understand their customers. Too bad, lots of lost sales.

    1. Yea….because everyone is in the market for a single cab truck

      1. If the regular cab short beds had 5.3’s in them they’d be gone in hours. Plus, I have cars and crossovers to haul people, I need the truck to haul me and my stuff.

    2. The HP and Torque ratings of the 2.7L are right where the 5.3L ratings were just a few years ago. Most people don’t even tow with their trucks these days and if they do, the 2.7L will handle it most of the time…..

      Reply
      1. If that’s true, why won’t they sell? If that’s true and the mileage is no better than the 5.3, why is GM trying to force feed them to us? GM should just listen to their customers and sell us what we want! Problem solved and everyone is happy.

        1. Stupid America! Too much political BS.
          I’ll stick with my 5.0 V8

  2. All TurboMax’s with the big discounts.

Need to be on all models and engines and it needs to be around $15k-$20K!!! Otherwise, I’ll keep my 2018 Denali with 43k miles. It’s tuned, has new TQ converter, and runs strong!!!

    1. Yup I have a 2012 Silver with 87k miles and no rust or problems. I would like a new one but too pricey so will keep this one a bit longer.

  3. So i have spoken to a few people with the 2.7t in the Silverado and they have no issues at all. It works fine and now it has more torque than the 5.3. So if you need a truck maybe drive a 2.7t and you might be surprised. For contractor people who use it for work it makes since. Even for the person that just wants a truck for regular driving, with Tow package it can tow 9k i believe or more. Read up about the 2.7t before just saying its a 4 Cylinder junk.

But Ford has issues with turbo v6 for a while and now most people prefer it over the V8.

  4. They need to take another $15,000 off and bring truck price where they should be!

  5. 2.7 is cheaper to build, price, and probably helps GM with their corporate emissions, MPG, and other greenhouse related requirements…but makes us spend more to grab a V8

  6. High inventory and soft demand.

  7. When I bought my S10 years ago I wouldn’t buy it with a 4 cylinder. Why would I buy a full size with a 4 cylinder. GM still screwed me with the V6. It wouldn’t pull a red wagon without downshifting!!!!!

  8. The problem with the 2.7 is that it does nothing for the consumer.

Does the 2.7 provide better fuel economy than the 5.3, no, and if your purpose is to tow regularly, the 2.7 fuel economy is worse than the 5.3.

Does the 2.7 allow you to avoid the 5.3 lifter issues, no. The 2.7 has lifters, AFM, and attempts to run on two cylinders when it can.

Does the 2.7 get you away from the problematic GM 8-speed transmission, no, only the 5.3/6.2 and 3.0 diesel get the 10-speed.

Does any of this mean the 2.7 is a bad engine, no, but again, the 2.7 provides no upside for the consumer, not to mention if you are a consumer shopping for an LT/Z71 or similar/higher trim, the 2.7 is not even an option. GM doesn’t build these with the 2.7.

    1. Why no high country 2.7?
Is that “great” powerplant too good for it?

      Reply
  9. Remember if you buy the 2.7 with the big discount, you will get a similar discount in the value when you trade in or resell.

    1. Wrong you get a way bigger discount when it is time to ship it down the road.

  10. $39,000 for the most basic “TRUCK” for 2024. What a joke.

  11. Just wait until the turbo needs an overhaul. I’ll keep my ’21 GMC with the 4.3 V6, more HP than my ’99 Vortec 5.3.

  12. 2,7 also has 100,00 mile engine warranty not the 36000 mile haven’t heard anything lifters either

    1. I believe that the 3.0 has the 100k mile warranty as well.

      1. yep that and the power train 2.7 stole some diesel tricks for the engine
