The GM Duramax 3.0L I-6 LZ0 is a turbo-diesel engine produced by General Motors for use in various vehicles, primarily full-size half-ton pickup trucks and full-size SUVs. Colloquially known as “baby Duramax“, the engine represents the second generation of GM’s 3.0L I-6 engine.
In April 2022, GM Authority was first to report that the engine was set to arrive for the 2023 Silverado 1500 and 2023 Sierra 1500.

Overview
The new LZ0 engine delivers a sizable increase in power and torque over its predecessor, the LM2.
- Max power is 305 horsepower, a 10 percent increase over the 277 horsepower in the LM2
- Max torque is 495 pound-feet, a 7.6 percent increase over the 460 pound-feet in the LM2
The gains in power and torque are the result of upgrades to several key components for optimum performance, including:
- New steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl
- Retuned turbo compressor
- New fuel injectors
- Improved temperature control features
