2024 Chevy Silverado 1500: Everything That’s New And Different

The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 represents the sixth model year of the Bow Tie’s current-generation full-size, half-ton pickup truck. There are a few noteworthy changes and updates in store, so GM Authority is now delving into everything that’s new and different about the 2024 model.

Model Cadence

For those keeping track, the 2024 Silverado 1500 traces its roots back to the 2019 Silverado 1500, which kicked off the fourth-gen model. A mid-cycle refresh took place for the 2022.5 Silverado 1500, while the 2023 Silverado 1500 brought about a few minor changes.

Interior

Inside, the 2024 model year sees one new feature and the expanded availability of two existing ones.

The new feature is the Rear Seat Belt Indicator, which is standard on all trims of Double Cab and Crew Cab models. In addition, the wireless phone projection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto becomes standard on WT. For the 2023 model year, the feature was option on that trim level. Finally, OnStar is now standard on the WT trim; it was optional for the 2023 model year.

Mechanical

Mechanically, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 sees one important availability-level change and one new feature.

First is the addition of the 3.0L LZ0 I-6 turbo-diesel Duramax engine for ZR2 trim. For the 2023 model year, this second-generation baby Duramax engine was not available on the ZR2 trim. With this change, the LZ0 is available on all Silverado 1500 trim levels with the exception of WT and Custom.

Second is the addition of Dual-Model Exhaust (NPP) for models equipped with 6.2L L87 V-8 gasoline engine. The feature let’s the driver modulate the truck’s exhaust note from within the cabin, making it more aggressive (when the integrated flaps in the exhaust system are open) or quieter (when the flaps are closed).

Other than that, the entire powertrain range carries over, as we display in the table below.

Engine Fuel Aspiration Transmission Drivetrain Horsepower @ RPM Torque @ RPM Axle Ratio
2.7L L3B TurboMax I4 Gasoline Turbocharged 10-Speed Automatic (MHS) RWD or 4WD 310 @ 5600 430 @ 3000 3.42
5.3L L84 EcoTec3 V8 Gasoline Atmospheric 10-Speed Automatic (MHS) RWD or 4WD 355 @ 5600 383 @ 4100 3.23 / 3.42
6.2L L87 EcoTec3 V8 Gasoline Atmospheric 10-Speed Automatic (MHS) RWD or 4WD 420 @ 5600 460 @ 4100 3.23 / 3.42
3.0L LZ0 Duramax I6 Diesel Turbocharged 10-Speed Automatic (MQC) RWD or 4WD 305 / 227 @ 3750 495 / 671 @ 2750 3.23 / 3.73

Driver Assist Tech

A key change is in store when it comes to driver assist technology: Adaptive Cruise Control (KSG) is standard on the 2024 Silverado 1500 High Country. By comparison, Adaptive Cruise Control was an extra-cost option on the High Country trim for the 2023 model year.

Packages

And that brings us to the packages, where the 2024 model year sees four key changes.

First, the 2024 Silverado 1500 adds the Dark Appearance Package (CWK). Available on Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT Trail Boss and ZR2, the package adds Black badging/decals, Black chrome exhaust, and Black tailgate lettering. That last bit – the tailgate lettering – is only included when opting for the standard tailgate (QK1), and is not included when the truck is optioned with Black (GBA) exterior paint.

Second is the introduction of the Midnight Edition (WJP) as an option on the High Country trim. This package was only available on Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss for the 2023 model year. The package includes Black Silverado badging, Black trim level badging, Black recovery hooks, and Black dual exhaust tips.

From there, the WT Safety Package (PQA) now includes Front and Rear Park Assist (UD5). For the 2023 model year, the package included Rear Park Assist only, and did not include Front Park Assist. Similarly, the Safety Package (PQB) – optional on 1LT, RST, LT Trail Boss and standard on LTZ – now includes Front and Rear Park Assist (UD5); for the 2023 model year, the package included Rear Park Assist but not Front Park Assist.

The updates and changes described here are specific to the U.S. market and may be different for other markets.

And that’s everything that’s new and different about the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500. We expect the current model to continue thru the 2026 model year, after which point it will be replaced by an all-new model. 1. That is all fine and dandy but is it the same junk lifters and injectors?

  2. Nice looking trucks. Hopefully they fixed the problems with the A/C also.

  3. So I hear the 6.6 Gas motor in the HD does away with the Displacement on Demand, and a while back this was absent on some 5.3 gas motors, please tell me they did away with it on all engines? That system is like the plague.

    1. no it was present on 5.3 since forever. 6.2 was exempt for like 2 more years iirc and then it got it.

cannot tell you about the 6.6…. i know GM diesels throw a death fit if anything is remotely off in the emissions (fords dont care).. pick your poison basically.

  4. There are just so many ways to put lipstick on a pig. GM trucks are still ugly. It is so comical to watch GM always trying to play catch-up to Ford’s superior styling and technology. Forget it GM, your trucks never sell as well as Ford’s. Especially your absolutely contrived and hideously-designed Chevy HD models.

    2. And still, year after year, CHEVY and GMC still be outsell the Ford F150! They must be doing something right!

  5. Your Ford tattoo must look awesome.

  6. In reality , If you combined GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado sales together, they outsell Ford. And GM or Chevy trucks have always been more reliable and last longer

  7. Just wish they would make the regular cab long bed in an LT or better trim, Hate the front facia and low options on the work truck and custom.

  8. Try to change spark plugs in a 5.4 liter with Ford’s 2 piece spark plugs. Also the 5 mile long timing changes on all Ford V8. Ford tough.

    1. oof those things. they either come out or… they dont

but the 5.3 has that one rear passenger side spark plug that requires cave exploration to get to. its a nightmare in the silverado due to engine mount position.

AND want to change your trans filter on a tahoe? too bad, there is an exhaust ypipe in the way. better hope none of those bolts break.

ironically i change transmission filters more often than spark plugs. every vehicle these days has so many stupid things designed into it no wonder labor rates are through the roof

  9. Word of caution for those considering the new “Lakeshore Blue Metallic” colour. As shown in the photo and online on GM’s website build your own” truck, the actual colour is considerably lighter than the blue colour tone shown in the photo. It is more of a mid blue, not quite the darker navy tone I was expecting. Needless to say, everyone who had seen my truck loves the new colour. I think the GM Marketing Department needs to release a more accurate depiction of the colour shade.

  10. Someone please tell me why this truck needs 10 (ten!) trim levels.

Fleets order work trucks. Folks ordering for themselves get the High Country. The rest of us buys what’s on the lot, which could be covered with LT or LTZ.

Wonder if Queen Mary herself could explain what’s custom about a Custom, or what RST and ZR2 stand for.

  12. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how GM put the wiper control together with the turn signal stalk on the left side of the steering column? Pretty well every other manufacturer has the wiper control on the right hand side of the steering column, where it should be! What should have been done is the wiper speeds including rear wiper, together on a stalk on right side of steering column. Even this design has its downside. Your hand is not ergonomically positioned as the wrist is awkwardly bent when turning the speeds. Alternatively, the wiper would probably have been better located high up on left hand side of dash panel, next to headlamp control dial. A large round dial is easier to operate and more intuitive than the stalk version. And speaking of the headlamp dial, it’s situated down low on the dash panel to the right of the trailer control. If your driving it’s harder to notice as it is obstructed by the steering wheel. Also, the radio dial should have been larger, especially when one is wearing gloves. And lastly, why no lights on the vanity mirrors of a truck costing $80k? Even my 2107 LT had them! Unacceptable to say the least. Someone totally screwed up on that one. Otherwise all else is good! Cheers!

    2. I’ve been driving Chevy 1500’s for 40 years, and when they went to wiper control on the turn signal lever, I thought it was a great decision, and still do. My wife drives a ’21 Lexus RS, and when I drive it, I sometimes bump the lever and activate the wipers. Absolutely hate it. Chevy got this one right.
