The GM Authority Take

The remarkable contraction of Chevrolet Korea sales in December substantially deepens the brand’s negative performance in the Asian country. In fact, the 1,840 units delivered during the month represent the worst monthly sales performance in all of 2022, the second consecutive monthly decline, as well as the lowest in the contemporary history of GM Korea. In fact, the performance exceeded the negative record of 2,057 deliveries in November.

The majority of the Bowtie brand’s models suffered substantial two- and three-digit declines in December as a result of lower unit availability of locally-manufactured vehicles, including the Chevy Spark, Malibu and first generation Trax. In addition, the electric Chevy Bolt EUV continued its rapid loss of momentum when compared to excellent results posted during prior months.

Only two models managed to be in the green on a year-over-year basis, including the Chevy Trailblazer and Equinox. The former remained Chevy’s best-selling model in South Korea, posting a healthy uptick when compared to the low registration figures seen during December 2021, while also being lower than the prior month’s result.
