The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Korea sales experienced a dramatic decrease during December 2021, deepening the Bow Tie brand’s negative performance in the South Korean market. In fact, the 2,519 deliveries represent Chevrolet’s second-lowest monthly sales figure during the last calendar year, marking its tenth consecutive monthly drop in the Asian country.

This poor behavior is the result of decreases availability of locally-manufactured vehicles, which in turn is due to the continuous interruption of production due to the ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips.

The vast majority of Chevrolet models suffered substantial drops in the South Korean market last month, including sharp declines in sales of the Spark and Trailblazer. The Trailblazer ended the 2021 calendar year as the brand’s best-selling vehicle for the first time in South Korea.

Meanwhile, the Chevy Traverse was the only nameplate to post an uptick in registrations with a healthy rise of 19 percent.
