The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Argentina sales posted a not-insignificant decrease during December 2021, deepening the negative performance of the bowtie brand in the country. In fact, last month’s results represent Chevrolet‘s eighth consecutive decline in the Argentine market due.

The disheartening performance is the result of a combination of several factors, including the global semiconductor shortage that has resulted in idled production, followed by reduced inventory of models, as well as the macroeconomic instability of the Argentine market.

In December, the vast majority of Chevrolet models in Argentina recorded sharp declines in sales volumes, including the Chevy Onix which, despite a pause in production lasting more than five months, remained the brand’s best-selling vehicle in the country.

By contrast, the domestically-made Chevy Cruze was the only model that posted an uptick in sales volume, both in December 2021 as well as during the complete calendar year. The compact car’s 64 percent sales growth positioned it as Chevy’s best-seller for the fourth month in a row in Argentina.
