The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Brazil sales registered a significant drop in October, representing the fifth consecutive month of decreased sales results for GM’s primary (and only) brand in the South American country. Even so, October 2021 results represent an important improvement compared to the even worse performance during the last several months. In fact, the 19,091 deliveries recorded in October represent the highest Chevy Brazil sales figure of the past six months, second only to the 20,890 sales recorded in April.

The Chevy Onix was a noteworthy driver in improving Chevrolet Brazil sales in October on a month-over-month basis. In fact, the October performance enabled the small car range to register its best sales in the last six months, while regaining its usual position as Brazil’s best-selling vehicle. The Onix hasn’t held that title since May due production being idled as a result of the ongoing microchip shortage. As such, the 9,651 deliveries of the popular subcompact car surpassed the 8,381 sales of the Fiat Argo hatchback, a key rival, during the same timeframe.

For its part, the new Chevy Tracker also posted a sales uptick compared to the last few months, improving its popularity in the crossover segment in Brazil.

Meanwhile, the Chevy S10 and TrailBlazer SUV were the only Chevy models to increase sales on a year-over-year basis.

2022 Chevrolet S10 Z71

The midsize pickup continues to increase its sales volume and level of competitiveness in the Brazilian market, threatening the Toyota Hilux, which has been the perennial segment best-seller in the market. But in October, the S10 closed the gap, selling only 39 units less than the 3,814 deliveries registered by the HiLux. Chevy recently introduced the new 2022 Chevy S10 Z71 to drum up interest and encourage demand in the truck.
