The GM Authority Take
Chevrolet Korea sales suffered a significant decrease in October, further deepening the negative performance of the Bow Tie brand in the Asian country. Not only do last month’s 2,493 deliveries represent Chevrolet‘s lowest monthly sales performance so far this year in South Korea, but the result also marks the eighth consecutive drop in monthly sales volume. The performance is the result of inventory issues caused by the global semiconductors shortage as well as other supply chain disruptions that has impacted locally-manufactured as well as imported models alike.
“The global semiconductor shortage is significantly impacting domestic and export sales,” said GM Korea Vice President of Sales, Service and Marketing, Carlos Meinert, in a statement. “We will make every effort to continue providing support and benefits to our local customers in these challenging times. Our current focus is on marketing the Traverse, which is perfect for outdoor activities in this autumn season,” he added.
The vast majority of models offered by Chevy in the South Korean market suffered notable declines year-over-year, including the best-selling Trailblazer and Spark. The small hatchback incidentally regained its position as the best-selling Chevy vehicle in the country. By contrast, the Chevy Traverse was the only model that managed to post an uptick in sales volume in October, with a slight increase of three percent.

Comments
South Korea is fine for design and manufacturing due to it’s free trade deals by Chevrolet can not keep with with Kia and Hyundai.
Globally, outside of US, Canada, China, LATAM) a GM brand should be developed selling the very best General Motors product. GMC and Buick autos are premium, high er r quality and more desirable than Chevrolet or in many cases Cadillac.
The era of GM carrying a lavish portfolio of desirable brands has passed globally. Buick is the closest VW & Toyota rival based on Chinese production and GMC makes solid, desirable Jeep rivals.
You notice the local Korean rivals were not compared and posted here… We know gm is suffering across all models and very well may be months or years to get back to normal production or have to settle with little production as the new normal.
My point, it would be interesting to see a comparison with local manufacturers to see if they are doing better or worse under supply chain issues and chip shortages like gm is expressing everyday.
