The GM Authority Take

After experiencing a significant drop in September, Chevrolet Argentina sales suffered an even steeper decline in October, one that surpasses the prior month’s result to become the worst performance thus far in 2021. The 1,355 Chevys delivered in October are less than half the sales volume in October 2020, marking the sixth consecutive decrease for Chevrolet in the Argentine market.

All Chevy models offered in Argentina suffered large double-digit declines in sales volume during October, led once again by a dramatic drop in Chevy Onix deliveries. The subcompact car family registered its worst-ever performance in the South American country with only 253 deliveries.

The disheartening results were caused by low inventory levels, itself the result of not being produced for five months due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage. Despite the steep 84 percent drop, the vehicle stands as the best-selling Chevrolet model in the country during the first ten months of 2021.

Additionally, the declines in Chevy Cruze and Chevy Tracker sales also contributed to the negative performance of Chevrolet Argentina sales. Both vehicles had achieved significant gains during the last few months, increasing in popularity in their respective segments. As a result of healthy sales during earlier months in the year, both nameplates managed to record positive sales during the first ten months of 2021. In fact, the Cruze ended up as Chevy’s best-selling model for the second month in a row.
