The GM Authority Take

GM Mexico sales suffered another noteworthy decrease in November, exacerbating the negative behavior of the last several months. In fact, last the November performance represents the automaker’s fifth consecutive decline in the Mexican market, where the company continues to experience adverse effects of the ongoing semiconductor shortage along with weakened demand for new vehicles.

As such, the vast majority of models offered by GM Mexico saw sales volume decline on a year-over-year basis, with high double- and triple-digit drops that translate into significant volume losses year-over-year. All of the more popular GM nameplates like the Aveo, Beat and Onix were in the red.

The decreases were led by the Onix – GM’s most modern subcompact sedan that’s made locally at the GM San Luis Potosí plant, which is currently idled by a components shortage. GM’s range of full-size pickup trucks and SUVs also saw sales drop sharply in November.

By contrast, Chevrolet’s newer crossovers in the Mexican market posted healthy levels of performance during November. Deliveries of these models surpassed the 1,000 unit mark, positioning them close to the Aveo as the company’s best sellers, led by the Chevy Captiva with 1,482 units, the new Chevy Groove with 1,131 units and the Chevy Tracker with 1,124 deliveries.
