The GM Authority Take

After two consecutive months of healthy increases with a very remarkable recovery in November, Chevrolet Argentina sales returned to post negative figures in December. In fact, the 1,968 units that Chevrolet sold in December represent a significant decrease of 29 percent, much higher than the 3.6 percent contraction of the overall auto market in Argentina. Chevy’s performance also represented the biggest decline among Argentina’s best-selling auto brands.

As such, most of the models offered by the bowtie brand in Argentina suffered notable decreases in December, including the Chevrolet Onix, which still finished 2020 as the best-selling passenger car in the Argentine market with 16,569 deliveries. By contrast, the Chevrolet Cruze, Montana and Tracker were the only nameplates that managed to increase their sales year-over-year.

Notably, the Cruze – which is built locally at the GM Rosario plant – was Argentina’s best-selling compact car during the 2020 calendar year.
