From a segment share standpoint, the CT4 posted a 13 percent share, down two percentage points year-over-year. The Integra led with a commanding 43 segment share, up 34 percentage points, soaring past the 14 percent share held by the ILX a year ago. The Audi A3 earned an 18 percent share, up four percentage points, while the 2 Series posted a 14 percent share, down seven percentage points, and the CLA-Class posted a 12 percent share, up one percentage point.

The small luxury car segment (luxury C-segment) grew 18 percent to 20,634 units in Q2 2023, meaning CT4 sales underperformed the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

Cadillac CT4 sales placed it fourth during the second quarter of 2023. The small luxury sedan was outperformed by all-new models from key rivals. Specifically, the all-new Acura Integra has become a very strong contender, while the all-new Audi A3 has now retaken second place in the segment. Even the BMW 2 Series edged out the CT4 during the quarter.

All in, it’s becoming clear that the CT4 is struggling against these all-new models, and we posit that a mix of the following three factors is holding back CT4 sales:

  1. Availability
  2. Product competitiveness of non-high-performance models (namely Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trims)
  3. Marketing and awareness of the model’s existence

Luckily, an expected refresh is on the way, though it was delayed untill the 2025 model year, which should address the second item, thereby making it more competitive and more attractive to customers.

About Cadillac CT4

The 2023 Cadillac CT4 arrives with just a handful of changes and updates over the 2022 Cadillac CT4. Notable for the 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is the debut of new Track Editions, offered in three different iterations, each is named after a U.S. race track: Watkins Glen IMSA Edition, the Sebring IMSA Edition, and the Road Atlanta IMSA Edition.

The Cadillac CT4 rides on the GM Alpha 2 platform, with the Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trims powered by the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine. It is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and connects to the GM eight-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B and GM 10-speed automatic transmission are optional on the Premium Luxury with 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, and standard on the CT4-V, rated at 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. All these variants are available in both rear-wheel-drive and optional all-wheel-drive configurations.

The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing runs the twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4 gasoline engine, rated at 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. The GM six-speed manual transmission is standard, while the 10-speed auto is optional – both exclusively feeding the rear wheels.

In December, Car and Driver named the CT4-V Blackwing to its 2023 10Best cars list.

The CT4 lineup will receive a mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year, which we initially expected for the 2024 model year. Here is what we know and expect for the 2025 Cadillac CT4.

In the meantime, the 2024 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing offers three new special-edition packages: Arrival EditionElevation Edition, and Impact Edition. Each 2024 CT4-V Blackwing Mondrian Edition features a numbered serial plaque.

Production of the 2024 Cadillac CT4 has already begun, with production of the 2024 CT4-V Blackwing Arrival Edition starting in August, the Impact Edition in September, and the Elevation Edition in November.

  • Perhaps if Cadillac would advertise the car, awareness of the vehicle would increase. I have a 21 ct4-v and get nothing but compliments about it.

    • You're spot on, John. They're built here in my town, and still very low key. Same with the Camaro; haven't seen a commercial in 10 years, even during racing broadcasts. SMH...

    • John: What you say is so true. Here's just two examples from my personal life in just the past week dealing with GM. First, I agreed last year to take part in a GM panel where they will send me survey's to fill out and some times follow up with more questions. On Monday this week I got one and clicked on to fill it out. The first question was when do you plan to purchase your next vehicle and I clicked on 1-2 years. The second question was what type of vehicle do you plan to purchase/lease. I clicked on small/mid sized and large sedans. I did NOT click on SUV/CUV or truck. When I hit submit, it ended the survey saying there were no more questions for today. Hmmm, it said that the survey would take about 10 minutes to fill out. Yet when I showed my interest in cars and not SUV's, they cut me out.

Then on Tuesday I went to have my first service done on my Bolt. While at the dealership, I walked around and they had well over 100 vehicles with many trucks and SUV's. Only 2 Malibu's in stock and both were white. In the showroom? Not one sedan. Also in the showroom was a large display with the flip boards showing the colors and interior trims. I flipped through it and nothing but trucks and SUV's. Zero on the Camaro, Malibu or Bolt.

GM and the dealers are just doing everything they can to kill the cars. Really sad.

  • I wonder what product will come into the LGR assembly plant once Camaro production ends. That plant's production is already running at less than 30 % capacity. We haven't heard anything about it around Lansing.

    • Production will be shifted to EVs. We’ve recently heard Cadillac is working on two EV sedans which will probably replace the CT4 and CT5 at some point in the late 2020s. Also a good chance the the Chevy low roof will also be produced here.

      • No this is why we won’t be seeing a 4 replacement but just a 5 and 6 EV replacement. I think most people are just going for the 5 instead since they are so close in price.

  • I recently rented a CT4 from Alamo for 5 days. What a fantastic car. It was user friendly, comfortable, and not hard on the eyes. Cabin was not crowded, and trunk had plenty of space for our luggage.

    • Just two people, right? Whenever I suggest to my friends I can take 4 in my ATS, it comes with a slightly maniacal laugh.

      • Sydtron: You say "ATS", but this is about the CT4 and Johnny K is talking about the CT4. I was still selling Cadillac's when the ATS came out and I've owned a CT4. It's not a huge difference, but the CT4 is certainly more roomy inside than the ATS. Maybe that's the difference?

  • I'm one of the 2,724 people that bought (leased) a new CT4 in Q2. Finding the car I wanted wasn't an easy task. Luxury with the Sun and Sound package. No dealer in Phoenix had one and the dealer that had one inbound wasn't due to receive it until after my private offer from Cadillac expired.

After contacting 10+ dealers I finally found one in Bakersfield, CA, 600 miles from home. They made the purchase really simple and I bought the car over the phone in 45 minutes. Flew to CA that evening, picked up the car the next day and drove it home.

CT4 availability was tough in Q2. Our primary car is a 2019 CT6, but the CT4 is a really impressive car for around town.

  • How about they replace the 2.0T with the new 2.5T going in the Traverse. Heck, do that with the CT5 as well.

    • We'll more than likely not see that happen. The 2.5t is designed for the FWD/AWD platforms. It's essentially the L3B 2.7ts counterpart. The 2.7t is for RWD/AWD/4WD platforms.
