Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Wins Car And Driver 2023 10Best Award

While it may not draw as much attention as its big brother, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing offers almost as much class and performance as the CT5-V Blackwing. Slightly lighter and more nimble, as well as less expensive, this Cadillac supersedan is quite capable of delivering breathtaking performance both on and off the track. Now, Car and Driver has named the CT4-V Blackwing to its 2023 10Best list.

As a repeat winner, the CT4-V Blackwing makes the list for much of the same reasons as its brethren. Car and Driver commended the sedan’s chassis and steering dynamics, along with the available manual transmission and massive Brembo brakes. Of particular praise was the CT4-V Blackwing’s ability to serve as a daily commuter as well as a track monster, thanks in part to its Magnetic Ride Control suspension.

It’s worth noting that the 2023 Chevy Corvette and the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing were also named to the 2023 10Best list.

To name vehicles to this list, Car and Driver separated cars from trucks and SUVs, and will award the latter next month. Additionally, every vehicle on the list has to go on sale by January 31st and be cheaper than $110,000. After driving every vehicle that fits these criteria, each car is ranked on a scale of zero to 100, with the 10-highest averages named to the 10Best list.

As a reminder, 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4 gasoline engine, churning out 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque sent through the rear wheels exclusively. Under the skin, the Caddy rides on the GM Alpha 2 platform.

Production takes place at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan alongside the standard Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT4-V, the Cadillac CT5 and CT5-V, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and the Chevy Camaro.

  1. Well deserved. This is an amazing car. I already sold mine because I intended on getting the CT5 BW, but I got a CPO AMG S63 for now and plan to pick up a BW in the final year of production. This platform is amazing. GM really has chassis tuning nailed down.

  2. I hate “me too” posts but I’m going to have to do it. Puts Ford to utter shame really. Mustang GT350/500 what a sad sack chassis and handling dynamics by comparison.

  3. This car is amazing! Test drove one recently, looking to pick one up soon to replace my ’16 Camaro SS that I sold! Good job Cadillac/GM, the Alpha chassis is one of the best in the World!

  4. GM spends a lot of $$money engineering gas guzzlers ICE autos, like the V-Blackwings. I am a gm retiree and love the company, but over the last 10 years, GM stop putting forth the effort and engineering to increase the gas MPG in its ICE autos. My 10-year-old GM truck gets the same or better MPG rating than the new one. I believe GM ICE autos will be the backbone of GM profits for the next 10 years, just wish GM would devote more attention to improving MPG in them.

    1. You do realize that NOBODY buys a BW becauae of gas mileage, right? Having said that, go back to the 60’s and 70’s muscle cars, compare them to modern muscle, sports car and sports sedans and tell me that gas mileage is horrible! My ’16 Camaro SS would get 35 mpg on the interstate doing 70 mph!

      1. Dan, I am talking about all high-performance ICE autos, and I specifically said over the last 10 years. What I am referencing to that GM has not put the effort into engineering to improve fuel MPG in its ICE autos, I truly believe the ICE autos will be a driving force to GM sales and profit for a long time going forward. I wish GM had continued improving fuel ratings with more importance than they have performed over the last decade.

  7. Agreed with the other comments here.

My brother recently found & bought a 2022 4V Blackwing in the rare matte green color (they made 32 of them before cancelling the $3995 paint color option).

The car is everything that GM can be with the right budget and corporate mindset. For a 6 cylinder, it is a remarkable performer, and its suspension, steering, and braking do their best to rearrange your skeletal configuration.

My only beef when my brother and I went to fetch this car in Port Richey, Florida was the excessive road noise coming into the interior. I realize the tire are loud, wide, and grippy, but I think Cadillac could have done a slightly better job on road noise abatement.
