Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Cadillac CT4 sales during the third quarter of 2022 put the small luxury sedan in third place in its segment when ranked by sales volume, behind the Acura Integra and Audi A3. The Acura Integra is all-new, jumped to first place in the segment during the quarter with 4,542 deliveries. The Audi A3 – also all-new – took second place in the segment with 3,298 deliveries as sales took off after the German model missed a sales year due to its generational change-over. The CT4 took third place with a 178 percent leap in sales to 2,581 units, followed by the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class in fourth with a 294 percent jump to 2,305 units. The BMW 2 Series, now made up of two models – the two-door Coupe and four-door Gran Coupé – followed in fifth with a 51 percent slide to 1,573 units. The other entry from Mercedes-Benz, the A-Class, took sixth with a surprising 46 percent increase in sales to 1,413 units even though the A-Class will be dropped after the 2022 model year. The Acura ILX finished out the list with just 29 deliveries as remaining inventory sells out and the model gets completely replaced by the aforementioned Integra.

The GM Authority Take

Cadillac CT4 sales took third place during the third quarter of 2022 and commanded 16 percent of the segment, a healthy growth rate of six percentage points. The small luxury sedan has steadily moved up in its segment, holding its own as rivals update models and discontinue others. Keeping production issues under control will be key to pushing CT4 sales to the top. That said, the Acura Integra is a strong new rival for the CT4. The same, though seemingly to a lesser degree, goes for the new Audi A3. Whether both models will remain in demand is a different matter entirely, however.

The CT4’s performance during Q3 2022 is healthy, especially considering the various issues the vehicle has faced since its launch. Specifically, the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan, where the CT4 is produced alongside the Cadillac CT5 and Chevy Camaro, saw idled production over the course of the past two years. These production disruptions resulted in low inventory at U.S. dealers, preventing shoppers from purchasing the vehicle in as great quantities as they would have desired. Luckily, production finally resumed in October 2021, which is very welcome news for Cadillac’s small luxury sedan, especially the range-topping 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing sedan that launched in 2021. However, GM paused production again for a week for the 2022 Cadillac CT4 in April due to an undisclosed parts shortage. Even production of the 2023 Cadillac CT4 was pushed back a week to July 18th, 2022.

As a reminder, the CT4 family is offered in “regular” CT4 guise – available in Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trims – high-performance CT4-V dress, and ultra-high-performance CT4-V Blackwing clothing. The vehicle remains a highly-compelling and, arguably, the most complete offering in the segment.

The 2023 Cadillac CT4 arrives with just a handful of changes and updates over the 2022 model, including getting the Driver Assist Package as standard and the addition of a Bronze Accent Package on the CT4 as well as on the CT4-V. However, the 2023 CT4 loses the Diamond Sky Special Edition Package.

Notable changes for the 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing are the debut of new 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Track Editions. The three special editions are named after a U.S. race track, including the Watkins Glen IMSA Edition, the Sebring IMSA Edition, and the Road Atlanta IMSA Edition. Additionally, the 2023 CT4-V Blackwing gains the addition of a new vehicle wrap as standard. It will be offered as an alternative to the available enclosed shipping carrier option. They are offered in three

The Cadillac CT4 rides on the GM Alpha 2 platform, with the Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trims powered by the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine. It is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and connects to the GM 8-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B is an option on the Premium Luxury and standard on the CT4-V. It is rated at 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque and connects to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission. All these variants are available in both rear-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive configurations.

The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing runs the twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4 gasoline engine, rated at 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. The GM six-speed manual transmission is standard, while the 10-speed auto is optional – both exclusively feeding the rear wheels.

  1. I was one of these sales. Just after Labor Day.

We’re still on our honeymoon. Light on it’s feet. Quiet. I love the interior. Satin Steel Metallic Premium Lux with AWD.

    1. Excellent choice. The CT4 is more refined while being very distinctive compared to the ATS. Wish more CT4s were on the road currently in greater volume. Seems so many people are missing out on this car.

  2. This is not a “luxury” sedan. It’s a 2-seater attempting to be a 4-passenger mid-range sedan.

I own 2-Cadillac CT6’s, a 2020 Premium Luxury and a 2017 Premium sedan. AWD, AWS, Bose PanaRay, Super Cruise and loaded with all the bells and whistles. These are LUXURY sedans with power enough to get out of their own way. I was given a Premium Luxury CT4 as a loaner when I had my 2020 in for a service…OMG it was pathetic on the interstate. All I could hear was the turbo 4 banger screaming to keep me at 75 mph.

Megeebee, I’m glad you like your CT4 and I hope you make it past the honeymoon phase.

    1. Guest what? The CT4 is made here and available for sale while the CT6 is no longer available for sale. One wonders why you are reading this story on the CT4 since you dislike the car so much.

Now for the car being a 2 seater according to you, the car is an entry-level model for Cadillac so it makes sense for the car to be on the smaller scale and more suitable for small families who could care less for larger space and just want a subcompact luxury car without spending so much money on a luxury car. There is a reason this market exists rather you like it or not.

    2. Quick Silver:

Well to each their own I guess.

I have to say though that I have experienced no such performance trouble with mine. The engine turns a reasonable 1800-1900 rpms to maintain 75-80 mph.

I would say too that the CT4 is not intended as a “Luxury” car as you define it. It is a Sport Sedan. I left a 2009 STS with a 3.6 V6 and 300 hp and the CT4 is much quieter on the highway and sprints away from a stop in a way the older car simply couldn’t.

  3. Is second third better than fourth fifths I guess?
