The GM Authority Take

The negative Chevrolet Korea sales performance during July represents the 17th consecutive month of sales volume declines for the Bow Tie brand in the Asian country. The ongoing declines are due to continued production difficulties caused by various shortages, including but not limited to the global shortage of semiconductors, which limit production and inventory.

The brand’s best-selling Chevy Trailblazers and Spark once again recorded notable declines in July in the South Korean market, although the duo managed to maintain above-average volume in the first half of the year. In fact, the Trailblazer had the lowest rate of decline to record 1,870 deliveries, close to its volume record so far this year of 1,987 units reached achieved in June. With that result, the Trailblazer strengthens its position as the brand’s best-selling model in the country.

The Chevy Camaro, Equinox and Traverse were the only models to see sales grow on a year-over-year basis. The Traverse was the third best-selling model during the month with a hefty 420 units, while the Equinox had the highest rate of growth in its second full month of sales since the refreshed model’s local launch in early June.

  1. Unless the bolt EUV is supplied to Korea quickly, the struggle in Korea will continue. There are thousands of contracts waiting for Bolt EUV in Korea, but GM has only supplied about 300 units over the past year.
