GMC Yukon sales decreased across the three North American markets during the third quarter of 2024, as follows:
- In the U.S., sales fell 8.6 percent to 19,331 units
- In Canada, sales fell 8.72 percent to 1,937 units
- In Mexico, sales fell 31.3 percent to 158 units
Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Combined GMC Yukon sales, those of the Yukon and Yukon XL, moved the full-size SUV range into second place in Q3 2024 ahead of the Ford Expedition, up from third during the preceding quarter when ranked by sales volume.
Despite an 18 percent drop in sales to a cumulative 32,386 units, the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, the Yukon’s corporate cousins that share the same architecture, continue to lead the segment on a combined basis, which has been the case for well over two decades. Individually, the regular-length Tahoe (see running Chevy Tahoe sales) remained at the top, with a 15 percent downturn to 23,337 units. Sales of the regular-length GMC Yukon (see running GMC Yukon sales) and the extended-length Yukon XL (see running GMC Yukon XL sales) are combined this quarter, together posting a cumulative nine percent decreased to 19,331 deliveries, placing second. The Ford Expedition (see running Ford Expedition sales), which includes cumulative sales of the regular-length Expedition and extended-length Expedition Max, slipped to third with a 13 percent dip to 14,817 units. Notably, the Tahoe alone bested sales of both Expedition variants combined, essentially the equivalent of the Tahoe plus the Suburban. The Tahoe’s extended-length variant – the Suburban (see running Chevy Suburban sales) – saw sales drop 25 percent to 9,049 deliveries to place fourth. The Jeep Wagoneer, comprised of both the regular-length Wagoneer and longer Wagoneer L (but not including the Grand Wagoneer), traded places for fifth with a three percent bump to 7,486 units. The Toyota Sequoia was next with a 70 percent jump to 6,422 units, while the Nissan Armada stayed at the bottom with 21 percent drop to 3,578 deliveries.

The GM Authority Take
Though GMC Yukon sales were in the red during Q3 2024, the healthy volume propelled Big Red’s full-sizers into second place in their segment ahead of crosstown rival, the Ford Expedition. In fact, the Yukon managed to do so by over 4.5K deliveries. We expect the Yukon to sell even better once the refreshed 2025 model has had a full quarter of sales under its belt.
Despite a drop in volume for both GMC and Chevy during Q3, combined sales of both models still enabled GM to account for nearly two thirds of all sales in this highly lucrative space.
That said, rivals are not standing still. Ford recently revealed the refreshed 2025 Ford Expedition, which delivers a bold new exterior, a new interior with clever cargo solutions, and a GM-rivaling power sliding center console.

About GMC Yukon And Yukon XL
The 2024 GMC Yukon drops the Redwood Metallic paint color and adds three new paint colors to the lineup, while the 2024 Yukon Denali Ultimate will offer two new wheel options as part of a small number of 2024 Yukon changes, updates, and new features.-
This past summer, the refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon officially debuted, boasting a long list of updates that enhance its design, comfort, and functionality. It’s highlighted by a refreshed exterior, revamped cabin, and cutting-edge tech, including new towing technology.
The updated SUV introduces two new trim levels: Elevation and AT4 Ultimate. The new AT4 Ultimate coincides with the 5th anniversary of the off-road-focused GMC AT4 sub-brand. Much like the GMC Canyon, Acadia, and Terrain, the 2025 GMC Yukon replaces the SLE and SLT trims with Elevation as the new entry-level one, resulting in the Yukon losing this family friendly seating feature.
The exterior of the 2025 Yukon shows off a truck-like attitude, with unique grille patterns and eye-catching animated lighting signatures. The cabin centers around a large, vertical 16.8-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment Center.
The refreshed 2025 Yukon offers several new appearance packages and updated engine availability, but won’t offer these three paint colors.
To that end, for 2025, the GMC Yukon AT4 finally gets a diesel engine option for the first time, featuring the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine. As before, the 2025 Yukon will continue to offer two gasoline engine options: the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 and naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87.
Check out GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft detailing the refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon, including the first-ever AT4 Ultimate, updates to the exterior and interior, new diesel engine, and new tech, in this video below.

In my neck of the woods (southeast La.) I see so few Ford Expeditions I thought Ford discontinued them. With me not being a Ford person if they did discontinue them, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings.
