Chevrolet Chile Sales Fell 36 Percent In January 2023

Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 36 percent to 1,967 units in January 2023. The figures place Chevrolet as the country’s second best-selling automobile brand during the month, behind Toyota.

Chilean auto sales figures are limited since reporting only shows the best-selling models in each segment. As such, no sales data is available for vehicles that sell in lower volumes. Nevertheless, individual Chevy model sales performance (for models for which sales data is available) was as follows:

In addition to the models specified, Chevrolet also markets the following vehicles in Chile:

The GM Authority Take

The notable drop in Chevrolet Chile sales in January represents the brand’s fourth consecutive contraction in the South American country, where it has been in the red since October 2022 due to low inventory of several of its most popular models. In fact, Chevrolet began the 2023 calendar year falling to second place among Chile’s best-selling auto, surpassed once agin by Toyota, which sold 2,270 vehicles.

Chevy Groove

In particular, the decrease in Chevrolet Chile sales last month was the result of notable declines in the sales volumes of the Chevy Sail, Tracker and Captiva. These three models saw outstanding sales in January 2022, but together suffered a significant contraction of more than 1,000 units in January, moving the brand into the red as a whole. It should be noted that the current Sail went from being one of the best-selling vehicles in Chile to one of Chevrolet’s least popular, as a result of being in the final part of its commercial cycle.

By contrast, the Chevy Groove posted a healthy increase, positioning it as the the brand’s best-selling nameplate during the month with 594 deliveries. It’s also worth highlighting the outstanding performance of the Chevy Silverado, which has now accumulated four consecutive months as the best-selling full-size pickup in Chile after the local launch of the refreshed model.
