The GM Authority Take

Having posted the best monthly performance in recent history in December 2022, GM Mexico sales started the new year with a notable decrease in January 2023, selling 1,193 units less than during the first month of 2022 and a whopping 8,467 deliveries less than December. The results bring an end to an excellent performance run of nine consecutive months of gains that the automaker has accumulated in the Latin American country.

Chevy Captiva

The decrease in GM Mexico sales during January 2023 was caused by lower sales volume of the company’s two best-selling vehicles – the Chevy Aveo and Onix. Cumulatively, the two models usurped 2,132 units from the automaker on a year-over-year basis, despite the outgoing Aveo’s substantial monthly volume recovery of almost 2,000 deliveries, which saw it regain the title of the company’s best-selling model. Additionally, GM’s entire lineup of full-size SUVs posted notable double-digit declines.

Chevy S10 Max

In contrast, some models were very much in the green, including the Chevy Captiva, S10 Max, Tornado Van and Tracker. All four models posted four-figure sales figures.

Also worth mentioning are the substantial triple- and quadruple-digit gains made by five crossovers – the GMC Terrain, Cadillac XT5, Buick Encore, Cadillac XT4 and GMC Acadia. The solid levels of performance of the aforementioned Buick and GMC models enabled both brands to finish January in the green.
