The GM Authority Take

U.S. GMC sales posted a notable increase on a year-over-year basis during Q1 2023, likely as a result of better availability of key models.

Sales Numbers - GMC Crossover SUVs - Q1 2023 - USA

MODEL Q1 23 / Q1 22 Q1 23 Q1 22 Q1 23 SHARE Q1 22 SHARE
GMC TERRAIN -28.13% 17,928 24,944 53% 73%
GMC ACADIA +70.79% 15,945 9,336 47% 27%
TOTAL -1.19% 33,873 34,280

The GMC Terrain saw sales drop 28 percent to 17,928 units, while GMC Acadia sales rose almost 71 percent to 15,945 units. Cumulatively, both GMC crossover SUVs saw sales slip one percent to just a few units shy of 33K deliveries.

GMC Yukon sales, which consist of both the Yukon and Yukon XL, slipped seven percent to 19,723 units. We posit that this is the result of subpar inventory of GMC’s full-size SUV range.

The GMC Sierra remained Big Red’s most popular model during the quarter, as sales rose nearly 19 percent to 67,198 units, on better availability. The GMC Canyon saw an 18 percent drop in sales to 5,016 units as the all-new, 2023 model continues its rollout. During the first quarter, the last-gen Canyon was not readily available, while availability of the all-new Canyon was very sparse.

  1. Interesting that numbers are down when production is no longer restricted by chip and part shortages… Looked for GMC at the NY Auto Show, did not see them, went with a Hyundai and could not be happier.
