The GM Authority Take

U.S. Cadillac sales posted a notable increase on a year-over-year basis during Q1 2023.

Sales of the Cadillac XT4 rose 83 percent to 6,772 units, while Cadillac XT5 sales jumped nearly 46 percent to 7,285 units. Meanwhile, the Cadillac XT6 saw a 26 percent growth to 4,762 units.

Table Title

CADILLAC XT4 +83.00% 6,773 3,701
CADILLAC XT5 +45.90% 7,285 4,993
CADILLAC XT6 +25.98% 4,762 3,780
TOTAL +50.87% 18,820 12,474

Cumulatively, sales of all three Cadillac crossover SUVs with internal combustion engines jumped an impressive 50 percent to 18,820 units during the quarter.

The Cadillac Escalade – which consists of both the Escalade and Escalade ESV – remained the luxury marque’s most popular model despite a drop in sales of more than 12 percent to 9,228 units. This decrease actually makes the Escalade the only Cadillac model to post a drop in sales.

CADILLAC ESCALADE ESV -9.21% 3,705 4,081
TOTAL -12.16% 9,228 10,505

Meanwhile, sales of the luxury marque’s two sedans – the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 – made notable gains, rising 43 and 37 percent, respectively. Cumulatively, sales of both sedans rose 39.5 percent to 7,305 units during the quarter.

CADILLAC CT5 +37.39% 4,593 3,343
TOTAL +39.52% 7,305 5,236

The Cadillac Lyriq accounted for 968 deliveries, as production has not ramped up to full scale levels.

We posit that the favorable gains in Cadillac sales figures during Q1 2023 were the direct result of more favorable supply of vehicles following several quarters of decreased availability.

  1. Cadillac makes beautiful vehicles. I really wish they’d reconsider the whole all electric thing. Why can’t they sell ice and electric vehicles simultaneously?

Cadillac DOES sell ice and electrics simultaneously.

        1. CT4 & 5 are beautiful cars and as good as any German or Japanese car. At first, I was disappointed to see Art & Science design end but it would be a mistake to kill these cars too early in favor of all EV.

GM has a similar plan with Buick in 2030 & they are moving too fast. This rush to Ultium will push drivers to Lexus and Acura. This is especially bad when you notice that both Buick and Cadillac outsell many luxe brands

    2. Judging by market trends and infrastructure issues, I believe that GM will still be building ICE vehicles for many years into the future. One cannot drive coast to coast, or any great distance to anywhere in the country in an electric vehicle with the same ease and piece of mind that an ICE vehicle provides. Contrary to the rose-colored predictions it is going to take decades – and even more fundamentally, hundreds of trillions of $$ – to put charging stations everywhere where they are needed. Is an electric vehicle a superior driving experience? Absolutely and in many ways. Are they for everyone? Not yet. Until charging becomes as convenient and quick as filling up with unleaded it won’t be completely accepted. Until extreme cold or heat does not affect range to such a large degree in an EV they will not be practical in huge swaths of the country.
Sure, that will change in time. But no major legacy automaker will completely turn their back on the huge U.S. ICE market share that will most likely continue for the next couple of decades.

  4. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that the Escalade sales are down because dealers are adding “market adjustments” and they have made already bloated sticker prices even worse. For shame!
