The GM Authority Take

U.S. Buick sales increased eight percent, led by the first-ever subcompact Buick Envista. The new entry-level crossover, which indirectly replaces the discontinued Buick Encore, led in percent change as well as in overall volume, accounting for nearly a third of all deliveries.

The refreshed Buick Encore GX – also a subcompact model like the Envista but positioned to be larger and more premium – doesn’t seem to be benefiting from its update, as sales fell 27 percent. Meanwhile, the Buick Envision compact crossover is gaining traction, as sales jumped 73 percent.

Meanwhile, the all-new Buick Enclave saw sales struggle due to the generational changeover.

With just four models in total on sale, all of which are crossovers, the Tri-Shield brand counts on buyers desiring a more premium option, even when being cross-shopped against offerings from fellow divisions within GM like GMC, which has historically been sold alongside Buick.

Buick has completed updating its lineup across-the-board, instituting a consistent design language and trim level structure, namely Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and Avenir. This provides simplicity for buyers, who are now just faced with picking the right model for their lifestyle, and then choosing amongst a base model, going with a sporty look, or a more luxurious one.

We’d be curious to see how Buick sales will fare when the new Enclave has completed its launch process and Encore GX sales become stronger.

That’s the trouble. The Encore GS may be “positioned” to be larger, but the Envista is longer (identical to the Envision) and has more leg room at a lower price. If they had equipped the US version of the Envista like the China version, it could easily have been positioned between the Encore GX and the Envision.

    1. Envista is too long – on par with genuine compact CUVs. GM will fix this dilemma with the GX (and the Trailblazer) when both are redone, probably for ’27 or ’28 by making both a lot bigger. And just watch their prices go up a lot more. And both are already horribly overpriced. You can’t find a decent GX for under $30K and that’s absurd.
On the East Coast, you can barely find an Envista because not that many have crossed the Mississippi. GM has issues with the Koreans coming only into California. California discounts on all 4 Koreans are HUGE, and much lower elsewhere.

  2. Envista is up because; 1) It’s not a EV, 2) people can afford it.

  3. Envista sales don’t seem to slow down even with the subpar quality and all those recalls.

    1. Name those recalls lol – there was one whole recall on the Envista, one!

  4. I am glad that the numbers are up. That is a good thing. In a totally different direction: I don’t like the colorless logo. I keep on thinking that GM removed the red, white, and blue colors so as not to hinder their car sales in China. Just aq thought.

    1. They brought the colors back. New logo is Red, White, and Blue again
