The GM Authority Take

As in every month so far in 2024, Chevrolet Korea sales suffered a significant drop during the month of July. This further deepened the Bow Tie brand’s poor commercial performance in South Korea, where it has accumulated a streak of seven consecutive months of contraction and continues to systematically reduce its limited market share despite the recent renewal of its two best-selling models.

Chevrolet Korea Sales Down 47 Percent In July 2024

In July, the majority of models offered by Chevrolet Korea posted steep double- and triple-digit declines that subtracted a massive volume of nearly 2,000 units year-over-year. While the hardest hit are imported models, the best-selling new Chevy Trax suffered the steepest decline of all, subtracting some 1,200 deliveries from July 2023. This caused the entry-level crossover to deepen its negative records and accumulate two consecutive months of declines in the total accumulated for the year to date.

The Chevy Trailblazer also saw a sharp decline for the month, with less than a quarter of the Trax’s low monthly volume. In contrast, the Chevy Tahoe was the only model from the brand to increase its sales in the South Korean market with just two more units. Meanwhile, the Chevy Traverse maintained exactly the same monthly figure from the previous year of 106 units, positioning it as the most popular imported vehicle from Chevrolet in the Asian country.

They build two of gm’s big sellers, Trax & Trailblazer, but show little interest in buying any of the gm line.

Maybe they are smarting because Trump made them start paying for the free military protection they got since the Korean war…

mexico argentina korea etc always have wild swings! -50 one month, +60 the next. that has always been the case. you have to look at 1 or 2 year averages for those places. quarterly or monthly is next to meaningless.
