The GM Authority Take

The downturn in Chevrolet Argentina sales for September deepen the brand’s negative performance in the South American country, as sales volume continues to fall despite the recovery that the Argentine automotive market has been experiencing for a couple of months. In fact, last month’s decrease represents the 11th consecutive monthly contraction for Chevrolet in Argentina.

Though nearly all Chevy models imported into Argentina posted massive triple-digit increases in September, the brand’s overall decline was once again caused by the poor performance of the best-selling Chevy Tracker and the (expected) downturn in sales volume of the discontinued Chevy Cruze. Between both models, the Bowtie brand lost a significant 805 units year-over-year, along with only seven deliveries due to the drop in sales of the low-volume Chevy Spin.

Meanwhile, the recovery in imported vehicles was led by the Chevy S10, which again achieved the month’s most significant increase. The midsize pickup added 308 deliveries to Chevy’s bottom line compared to September 2023, almost becoming the second best-selling model in the country during the month. That position was occupied by the Chevy Onix, which saw sales increase to 388 deliveries after many months in the red. Finally, it’s worth noting that the Chevy TrailBlazer SUV and the Montana compact pickup posted the highest growth rates for the brand.
