The GM Authority Take

The significant drop in Chevrolet Argentina sales during the month of July deepens the brand’s negative performance in the country, where it has accumulated nine consecutive months of declines. Despite representing a slowdown in the decline rate and a significantly better volume compared to the 1,769 deliveries registered in June, Chevrolet’s performance last month continued to drop, and has not yet responded to the increase in demand that the Argentine automotive market has begun to experience.

Chevrolet Argentina sales dropped 22 percent during the month July 2024. Shown here is a rear three-quarters view of the Chevy Tracker crossover.

As in the last few months, Chevrolet Argentina’s commercial stumble during July was impacted by a drop in sales of most models offered in the country, including the domestically manufactured Chevy Tracker. The subcompact crossover lost momentum once again, along with its leadership as the best-selling utility vehicle in Argentina, where competition has become stronger, including greater availability of units in the case of imported models.

Once again, the Chevy Cruze posted remarkable volume, quite close to that of the Tracker, marking the third consecutive month of incremental performance due to discounts applied to the last remaining units in inventory. Curiously, only three low-volume models managed to increase their sales in July, all with high triple-digit increases, but those were insufficient to impact the overall result. Among them, the new Chevy Montana stands out, which in a single month surpassed the 125 deliveries it accumulated during the entire first half of the year.
