The GM Authority Take

Once again, Chevrolet Argentina sales fell sharply in August, deepening the brand’s negative performance in the South American country. Last month’s contraction represents Chevrolet’s tenth consecutive monthly decline in the Argentine market and keeps GM in seventh place in sales – far behind its main rivals.

Chevrolet Argentina Sales Fell 31 Percent In August 2024

Even though half of Chevrolet Argentina’s models achieved high triple-digit increases, the overall August drop was driven by plummeting sales of the locally manufactured Chevy Tracker and the discontinued Chevy Cruze. The subcompact crossover sold less than half of the same month’s figure last year and is moving further away from its lead among utility vehicles. The Chevy Onix also suffered a notable drop last month but continued its monthly volume recovery.

Chevrolet Argentina Sales Fell 31 Percent In August 2024

In contrast, the Chevy S10 posted the most significant increase and positioned itself as Chevrolet’s second best-selling model in Argentina. The Brazilian-imported midsize pickup sold more than double the number of units year-over-year thanks to a significant improvement in local inventory. The truck is still sold in the previous version 2024 model year. In addition, the Chevy Montana again made a dramatic jump after surpassing first-half volume in August, while the Chevy TrailBlazer SUV and Equinox had the highest growth rates.
