The GM Authority Take

The slight drop in Chevrolet Brazil sales during September deepens the Bow Tie brand’s negative performance. As such, the slight decline represents the third consecutive month that Chevy was in the red in South America’s largest country, where it continues to lose its market leading position. The good news is that this took place at a slower pace in September than in prior months.

In September, nearly half of the models offered by Chevrolet in Brazil saw declines in sales volume, including five nameplates sapping a significant 1,973 units from the September’s bottom line. Among them are the brand’s two best-selling vehicles in Brazil – the Chevy Onix and Chevy Tracker. The Onix had the biggest drop, causing it to again lose its lead as the best-selling vehicle in Brazil, though it did improve from the third to the second position in the country, behind only the Fiat Strada (14,240).

In contrast, several Chevys managed to finish the month in the green. The most notable of these was the substantial increase in sales of the Chevy S10, which added more than a thousand units to the bottom line on a year-over-year basis, continuing to improve its commercial performance thanks to the arrival of the fully updated model. Likewise, the Chevy Spin continued the solid momentum to consolidate itself as Brazil’s best-selling three-row family vehicle.
