GMC sales in the United States decreased two percent to 159,585 units during Q2 2024. Shown here is the all-new next-generation GMC Acadia.

The GM Authority Take

Sales of almost half of GMC’s seven model lines were in the red year-over-year during the quarter.

The GMC Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SUV duo had sales broken out a year ago but are combined this time around. Consequently, Q2 2023 sales of 22,269 units combined compared to Q2 2024 cumulative sales of 21,449 units to produce an actual decline of 3.68 percent.

Meanwhile, the GMC Acadia large crossover posted the worst sales drop for the Professional Grade brand, while the GMC Terrain small crossover was the only utility to post a sales gain like it did the previous quarter.

A next-generation Acadia has arrived, and an all-new Terrain is on the way, both to be joined by a refreshed Yukon and Yukon XL duo later this year.

Big Red’s trucks posted respectable sales gains, with the GMC Sierra full-size pickup line being bested by the midsize GMC Canyon by an even bigger margin this time.

The marque’s first-ever all-electric model, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup full-size off-road supertruck, is sold side-by-side with its sibling, the GMC Hummer EV SUV. Sales of the two models are combined this time around under the Pickup line item.

Not surprisingly, sales of the dated GMC Savana fared poorly this quarter. Along with the Chevy Express, the full-size van is an old vehicle that traces its roots to the 1990s, being the oldest GM model currently in production. A much-needed overhaul is overdue, but The General may have canceled plans for any next-generation vans.

To date, GM has sold more than 3 million Chevy Express and GMC Savana units.
