The GM Authority Take
While Chevy Equinox sales during the second quarter of 2024 saw it break into what have typically been the top three in this space—Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue—combining sales of the Equinox and GMC Terrain makes GM even more competitive. Yet, cumulative sales of the Hyundai Motor Group conglomerate—those of the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage—still beat out the automaker.
The arrival of the next-generation 2025 Chevy Equinox should boost sales of GM’s best-selling crossover as buyers start snatching up the all-new model. Add to that the pending launch of the next-gen 2025 GMC Terrain, and the future looks bright for The General.
About Chevrolet Equinox
The 2024 Chevy Equinox arrives with only a handful of changes and updates before the debut of the all-new fourth generation.
As in prior model years, front-wheel drive is standard across all 2024 Chevy Equinox trim levels, with all-wheel drive offered as an optional upgrade. Motivation for the 2024 Equinox comes from the new-for-2023 turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which produces 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque.
Here is everything that’s new and different for the 2024 Chevy Equinox.
In January, GM unveiled the all-new 2025 Chevy Equinox, debuting the fourth generation of its best-selling crossover. Highlights include larger screens in the cabin and additional safety features. Joining the sporty-looking RS trim level is the new-for-2025 Activ trim, offering a more rugged look and setup for outdoorsy activities. The 2025 Chevy Equinox is wider and taller than the 2024 model, with a slightly more spacious interior.
The all-new model offers the same turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine as before, placing its powertrain mid-pack compared to direct rivals. Yet, fuel economy ratings get worse for the 2025 Equinox.
About Chevrolet Equinox EV
Meanwhile, the first-ever 2024 Chevy Equinox EV debuted this past September, featuring as standard a single Ultium Drive electric motor powering the front wheels, rated at 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. An optional AWD system will also be offered, rated at 290 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque.
Launch trim levels include 2LT and 3LT, along with the sporty 2RS and 3RS, plus a 2RS Launch Edition, which is currently sold out. There will be no 2024 Equinox EV 1LT offered. For 2025, the Equinox EV gets an overhauled trim lineup.
The Chevy Safety Assist suite of active safety features comes standard across the board.
Driving range confirmed by GM for the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV AWD reveals that it will offer an EPA-estimated 285 miles of range per charge, while the Equinox EV FWD will offer 319 miles of range. GM also boasts that the Equinox EV is the most affordable all-electric vehicle to offer 315+ miles of range.
Both the all-new Equinox EV as well as the next-gen, 2025 Equinox internal combustion model will be sold side-by-side for the foreseeable future, especially since the ICE version just launched a new generation of the nameplate.

Disagree. It’ll be a while until those numbers are that high, once the new one replaces the current one. Prices are not as competitive and discounts will largely vanish. For the first few years. Like every other new generation.
Regarding the chart, as I’ve said a zillion times before, the Mazda CX-50 should be included and the Bronco Sport should not. It’s too small and is properly in the class below.
If GM wants to boost sales, then bring home the Equinox Plus PHEV technology from China. 96 mile range from a single charge will place the Equinox in a class by itself.
That’s 96 miles on the optimistic CLTC test cycle. Which is generally about 35% more optimistic than EPA. That’s still like 70miles EPA which would be great. And CLTC is more based on low speed city driving scenarios, so maybe you would actually see 96 in most day-to-day non-highway use.
I appreciate that you break out Equinox ICE and Equinox EV sales numbers, but really I think they should be reported in the same article and the combined numbers also computed.
If you include Equinox EV numbers for Q2, sales for the “equinox” are up in US and Canada.
I think you also need to stop treating EV and ICE as separate segments when doing the segment comparisons.
What’s going on in the Mexico and South American markets that sales are seeing such a big drop? Is it the import of cheap Chinese EVs? Or just an overall vehicle sales drop?
How are other GM products doing there? What about other major automakers.
