The GM Authority Take

Though Chevy Equinox sales slipped during the second quarter, GM’s best-selling crossover remains competitive, placing fifth among 16 entires in the mainstream compact crossover segment. We posit that the lackluster performance is the result of suboptimal availability at the dealer level, a circumstance brought about by shipping constrains that GM is actively working on resolving. Specifically, Equinox inventory was at 18 days supply in July, up from 14 in June and in May. For context, a 60 days supply is considered optimal across the automotive industry.

For consolation, combined sales of the Equinox and GMC Terrain gave GM a third-place showing against perennial favorites.

About Chevy Equinox

The 2024 Chevy Equinox arrives with only a handful of updates and changes prior to the debut of an all-new fourth generation. For example, pricing breakouts for the 2024 Chevy Equinox show that the LT became $1,795 more expensive, while the RS trim rose only by $250. Both of these increases are the result of new packages now being included as standard. Check out complete 2024 Equinox pricing with options.

As in prior model years, front-wheel drive is included as standard across all 2024 Chevy Equinox trim levels, with all-wheel drive offered as an optional upgrade. Motivation for the 2024 Equinox comes from the new-for-2023 turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which produces 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque.

Next-gen, 2025 Chevy Equinox Activ

The next-generation Chevy Equinox is on the way for 2024 as the 2025 Chevy Equinox.

Our spies first spotted the 2025 Chevy Equinox prototype testing last November and again in December, and most recently in March. Also, GM Authority was the first to report that the next-gen Equinox will also get an Activ trim level like the one offered on the current generation Chevy Trailblazer and wildy popular all-new 2024 Chevy Trax. In June, images of the next-gen Equinox leaked online, revealing a more rugged exterior design compared to the current model, while offering our first glimpse of the Activ trim.

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV 3RS

Looking toward future, the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV is on the way, with GM already building Equinox EV units. The Equinox EV will feature as standard a single Ultium Drive electric motor powering the front wheels, rated at 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. An optional ‘eAWD’ system will also be offered, rated at 290 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. In February the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV began road testing.

If GM can build enough of its upcoming next-gen Equinox models, including those with the internal combustion engine as well as the Equinox EV, then sales should start looking really good for GM’s best-selling crossover product.

  1. I like how you “forgot” that the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport combined to give Ford a 12% share, edging out GM that tied with Nissan at 11%. Creative.

    1. How is she a clown? Have you looked at how GM is doing compared to the other big 3? Seems she is running a pretty good ship. No it isn’t an enthusiast run ship, but that doesn’t pay the bills. If she had followed everyone’s lead on here (Raptor/Jeep fighter, tons of optional engines in markets that don’t care “cough 2.0 in the compact market cough” among others) they’d be in much worse financial shape and in the same slowly sinking boats the others are in.

      1. I know of a company that has historically purchased Equinoxes but switched to Escapes this year to get hybrids.

    2. Shocking that Escape and Nox are basically tied. Esscape and, especially, Bronco Sport are disappointmenting compared to Ford expectations. Ford thought Bronco Sport would be a big player.

Customers often don’t care about the age of a design. Terrain still looks great & Nox is fine even though next gen should shake things up. For GM to stay relevant next gen Nox & Terrain together must at least tie Honda & leave Hyandai in the dust! Will never understand why GM is using different ICE & EV designs. Stellantis offers the identical Opel Mokka, for example, as ICE, BEV and Hybrid. Ultium platform can handle any design, is very flexible.
Maybe this is why Ford has overtaken GM in profitability all while loosing money in Europe and China? Berra is smart with rebranding, hiring Simcoe, bur do far that’s about it. Cadillac is already proving not to be a Tesla rival which would have been better with Electra line

  2. Boy, that is one crowded segment. The Nox is still holding it’s own considering it’s due (over due) for a change and the new one and EV version is so close. IMO, the one thing it has going for it is the fully painted wheel openings. So much nicer than the junk black plastic they all seem to use.

  3. Here in Canada, the supply of cars , Equinox and Terrain is almost non-existent and has been that way for the past 2 years.
Any that arrive are mostly presold or spend no time on the lots.
GM has prioritized their chips on larger larger cross overs and FS pickups.
The top sellers , Toyota, Nissan and Honda have 10 times the inventory on the lots that the Equinox and Terrain have combined.
Last week i visited 2 of the largest dealers and combined they had less than 4 Equinox and Terrains , while the Honda dealer had 20+ CRVs
you cannot sell what you never have!!
