Chevrolet Chile Sales Down 39 Percent In March 2023

Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 39 percent to 2,258 units in March 2023. The figures place Chevrolet as the country’s second best-selling automobile brand during the month, behind Mitsubishi.

Chilean auto sales figures are limited since reporting only shows the best-selling models in each segment. As such, no sales data is available for vehicles that sell in lower volumes. Nevertheless, individual Chevy model sales performance (for models for which sales data is available) was as follows:

In addition to the models specified, Chevrolet also markets the following vehicles in Chile:

The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Chile sales continued on a negative trajectory in March, posting a not-insignificant double-digit drop. Although the March performance represents a significant recovery from the 1,678 sales recorded in February, causing Chevy to fall to third place in the country’s best-selling auto rankings, the Bow Tie brand has now experienced its sixth consecutive decline in the highly competitive Chilean market as it struggles to recover both inventory levels as well as its leadership position.

Chevy Groove

Once again, the commercial setback experienced by Chevrolet Chile during March 2023 was the direct result of a drastic drop in sales of the Chevy Sail, which suffered a significant reduction of 891 units on a year-over-year basis. The popular subcompact sedan is in its final phase of availability, and has fallen to fourth place among the brand’s best-selling models in first four months of the year. The Chevy Onix, N400 and Tracker were also in the red.

In contrast, the Chevy Groove posted a slight increase of almost one percent to continue as the brand’s best-selling model in March. Additionally, the Chevy Colorado had the most noteworthy increase on a year-over-year basis, adding almost 100 units to the bottom line, while the recently-introduced Silverado maintained a stable volume, consolidating its position as the best-selling full-size pickup in the South American country.
