The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Korea sales continued on a negative trajectory in March, posting a significant decline that represents the fifth consecutive month of contraction for the Bow Tie brand in the Asian country. However, the overall sales volume still represents an improvement from the 1,021 deliveries recorded in January and the 1,054 posted in February – the two worst records in Chevrolet’s history in South Korea.

The drastic decline in March was primarily caused by a notable volume loss for the Chevy Trailblazer and Spark, which together fell an exact 2,000 units (1,130 for the crossover and 870 for the minicar) over March 2022. GM Korea hasn’t specified the reason for the Trailblazer’s substantial drop in Korea, but it’s likely due to supply chain issues and GM’s primary focus to export the model to North America.

Only the Chevy Bolt EV and Traverse managed to post gains on a year-over-year basis, both during March as well as during the first three months of the 2023 calendar year. In addition, the Chevy Bolt EUV posted its first 179 deliveries so far this year in South Korea.

GM’s South Korean subsidiary recently shared that it hopes to end the brand’s steady declines with the arrival of the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax crossover. The small CUV went on sale this month as is poised to become the company’s best-selling model.
