The GM Authority Take

The solid increase in Chevrolet Argentina sales in May represents the brand’s first positive monthly sales results so far this year, as the global semiconductor shortage and import restrictions imposed by local authorities have hamstrung sales performance. In fact, the healthy increase in May marks the end of 12 consecutive months of the Bow Tie brand being in the red in the Argentine market.

In May, five Chevrolet models managed to see increases in their sales volumes in Argentina, led by the locally-manufactured Chevy Cruze. The compact car range achieved its best monthly sales performance to date, consolidating its position as the brand’s most popular vehicle and ranking among Argentina’s top three best-selling vehicles for the first time. In fact, the Cruze has added a whopping 1,266 sales year-over-year, just 49 units short of surpassing the 1,952 deliveries of the Toyota Hilux.

For its part, the Chevy S10 midsize pickup truck improved its sales performance during May, but remained far behind locally made rivals. In fact, the Chevrolet pickup truck is the only vehicle in its segment manufactured in Brazil.

Finally, the Chevy Onix and Chevy Tracker were in the red due to low unit inventory, despite being in high demand in the local market.
