A wireless phone charger problem is likely affecting some units of the 2024 GMC Acadia and the 2023 to 2024 GMC Canyon pickup truck, as described in a new proactive preliminary information bulletin from General Motors that has been filed with the NHTSA.
The malfunctioning wireless phone charger issue in the GMC Acadia and GMC Canyon has come to the attention of GM, which currently has its engineering department working on finding out the cause so a solution can be offered.
In affected vehicles, the wireless phone charger may start charging a phone, but then stops charging before the phone is fully charged for unknown reasons. According to service bulletin number PIT6098B multiple GMC Acadia and Canyon owners have made the automaker aware of the issue, leading to the current investigation.
GM emphasizes that dealerships are not to provide service for affected GMC Acadia and Canyon units at this time. In particular, they should not replace any components, since the cause is unknown. Instead, they should provide GM’s apologies to the vehicle owner and inform the owner that a fix is being researched and will be made available.
While part replacement is recommended against, the dealership can verify the presence of the wireless phone charger glitch through testing if desired. This process should only be carried out on vehicles still under warranty and requires about 12 minutes to complete on average.
The GMC Acadia and GMC Canyon are currently being investigated by GM engineers in an effort to pin down the root cause of the charger malfunction. Once the source of the problem is identified, the engineers will develop a fix and The General will update the service bulletin with information about the newly available solution.
The problem seems to be affecting only GMC Acadia and Canyon vehicles made for and sold in the North America region, comprised of Canada, the United States and Mexico. The issue affects Acadia and Canyon units with all drivetrain and transmission configurations, along with some Cadillac and Chevrolet models.

Never understood the wireless charging. Most all phones have a metal cover on them. I always get a message, Remove metal objects before charger will work. So I’m supposed to take my phone in and out of the case????
I’m still waiting for my canyon but have owned 2 Hondas with the wireless chargers. Both have also had their issues with it. I have the module for wireless android installed in my current one and wireless doesn’t charge as fast as the battery depletes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth both operating. Easier to just plug it in for android auto.
My 2019 wireless charged worked great and it was a slot. My 2023 Colorado ZR2 works when it wants to. Its also be looked at for a fix since its on the same platform as the Canyon. From what I can tell from forums its mainly Iphones. From looking at it myself it seems there to much space between the rubber pad and wireless unit. Some owners have shaved the ribs off the back of the pad on the canyons and colorado’s and it seemed to help. I think its more apple design issue. But at least GM is looking into it.
It is not just a GMC Acadia/Canyon problem. I have a 2023 GMC Yukon XL and a 2024 Chev Colorado ZR2. It is doing the same thing in both vehicles. This affects the charging and wireless CarPlay features.
