The GM Authority Take

April was another month of low sales for Chevrolet in Argentina. The results represent the brand’s 12th consecutive monthly drop in sales volume in the South American country, further deepening the Bow Tie brand’s negative performance amid various challenges in the Argentine automotive market. In addition to various logistical difficulties to produce the most popular vehicles due to the continuing shortage of semiconductor chips, GM Argentina’s business is also being impacted by import restrictions imposed by local authorities.

Although most of the models offered by Chevrolet in Argentina were in the red during April – including the highly sought-after Chevy Onix and Tracker – the good performance of three vehicles during the past month stands out in particular. Once again, the Chevy Cruze achieved a healthy increase in sales volume, consolidating its position as the brand’s best-selling vehicle in the Argentine market. The compact car is improving its performance by being the only Chevy model manufactured locally in Argentina, thereby enabling it to circumvent the various import restrictions. In addition, Cruze sales are being helped by the introduction of two new special editions.

Moreover, Chevy Equinox and Chevy Spin also managed to post sales gains. However, both vehicles have a low sales volume in Argentina and their growth did not have a major impact on the brand’s overall performance during April.
