The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Brazil sales registered a significant increase in May, marking a significant recovery compared to the same month in 2021 (year-over-year) as well as when compared to the 21,231 units sold in April (month-over-month). In fact, the 21,231 sales recorded in April represented the brand’s best monthly performance so far in 2022 in the Brazilian market, but the 25,360 sales earned in May eclipse the April figure. The May results also represent the second consecutive increase in sales volume on a monthly basis.

The healthy improvement in Chevrolet Brazil sales was driven by the performance of five vehicles, including three best-selling models – the Chevy Onix, Chevy Tracker, and Chevy S10. As is typically the case, the performance of the Onix had an overwhelmingly positive impact on Chevy’s total in May, as the subcompact car range recorded its best figure thus far in 2022. However, the Onix lost the title of Brazil’s best-selling new vehicle to the Hyundai HB20, which registered 12,637 deliveries in May.

For its part, the Chevy Tracker also recorded its best monthly sales figure thus far this year in May, ending the month as Brazil’s best-selling utility vehicle for the first time in many months. The improvement in sales volume is the result of more favorable inventory. Additionally, the Chevy Cruze and TrailBlazer SUV rounded out the month’s positive performance with dramatic triple-digit gains.
