The GM Authority Take

The newfound drop in Chevrolet Korea sales extends the Bow Tie’s negative performance in the local market, representing 16 consecutive months of declining sales. However, the 4,433 units sold last month represent a significant recovery from recent months while also being the best record for Chevrolet so far this year in South Korea.

Although the brand’s best-selling Chevy Trailblazer suffered a notable double-digit drops in Korea, the crossover has seen a notable improvement in volume over prior months, enabling it to recover its position as the brand’s best-selling vehicle, while also posting its best monthly performance so far this year. Meanwhile, Chevy Spark sales continue to suffer as a result of the global semiconductor shortage, which General Motors is coping with by allocating chips to more profitable vehicles, such as full-size pickup trucks and SUVs.

The Chevy Colorado was the only Chevrolet model in South Korea whose sales were in the green in June, posting double-digit growth for both the month as well as the first half of the 2022 calendar year. Additionally, the Chevy Equinox performed well during its first sales month after being reintroduced in the Asian country. With 299 deliveries, it became Chevrolet’s third best-selling model in June.

  1. It’s a waste of time for GM to build or even sell there. You cannot beat the national champion, which is subsidized by the Korean government, Hyundai.
