The GM Authority Take

GM Mexico sales posted another healthy increase during June 2021. The results come on the heels of a dramatic 108 percent increase in sales volume in May, which ended 13 months of decreasing sales volume for The General in the Mexican market.

The improvement in May and June is the result of a general recovery in the overall market as well as better conditions over the same time during 2020. In fact, June 2020 represented the second full month of stay-at-home orders as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico.

Of the 19 GM Mexico models that saw increased sales results in June, the most prominent were the Chevrolet Aveo and the portfolio of all-new full-size SUVs, including the Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban, Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon. The Aveo regained its former position as the company’s best-selling vehicle in the Mexican market, with a notable increase of 81 percent. Meanwhile, each of the four full-size utility vehicles posted huge three- and four-digit increases, headlined by the 1,330 percent growth in combined Yukon sales volume.

Additionally, the new 2022 Chevrolet Captiva and second-generation Buick Envision also recorded healthy sales performances in June 2021 in Mexico. The Captiva, a new compact crossover, posted its best monthly result to date in the Mexican market, while Envision sales jumped 1,150 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
