The GM Authority Take

GM Russia sales increased significantly in April, representing a substantial recovery in sales volume compared to the same month last year, which represented the initial stage of stay-at-home orders in the country as a result of COVID-19. Although only general sales figures for each brand in the Russian automotive market are currently available, the records show a significant recovery in Cadillac sales volume, further strengthening the luxury marque’s position as GM’s largest brand by sales volume in Russia.

The substantial increases in GM Russia sales during April as well as during the first four months of 2021 was driven by the Cadillac XT5 and XT4, with the latter having only launched in Russia earlier this year – roughly two and a half years after it launches in the U.S. Even so, the Cadillac Escalade  full-size luxury SUV remains GM’s best-selling model in the Russian market.

  1. At first I thought this was a significant turn of events until I saw the numbers. Only 243 vehicles sold in April 2021 compared to 35 units last April. 2021 is only seeing a 59% increase. The low number of vehicles sold in 2020 is to be expected given the start of the pandemic and fewer consumers purchasing vehicles.
