The Ram ProMaster moved back up to second place, a spot it held for the past two-plus years before slipping to fourth the previous quarter. It posted a 24 percent drop in sales to 15,369 units. The Blue Oval’s second entry, the Ford E-Series (see running Ford E-Series sales), moved back into third with a 13 percent bump to 9,828 units, while the Chevy Express (see running Chevy Express sales), Savana’s corporate twin, followed in fourth with a two percent uptick to 9,410 units. The GM Authority Take
GMC Savana sales remained down halfway into the year, though combining sales of the Savana with the Chevy Express pushed GM into second place—still not ahead of crosstown rival Ford.
As we continue to point out, the Savana/Express is an old vehicle that traces its roots to the 1990s. The duo remains the oldest models in their segment by a wide margin. They’re even the oldest GM vehicles currently in production. Meanwhile, the field offers substantially more modern and attractive products.
Worse yet, GM eliminated the turbo-diesel baby Duramax engine, which was one of the key differentiators of the automaker’s full-size van offering. With the diesel gone, there’s now not much reason for fleets or retail buyers to opt for either of the two GM twins. Class-leading towing is one of this van’s only competitive advantages.
A much-needed overhaul would substantially help GM in this space, but The General may have canceled any such plans, even though the automaker previously entertained plans to redesign the Chevy Express for the 2027 model year, keeping the ICE powertrain.
Additionally, this past December, GM issued a “Stop Build” order for four configurations of the 2024 Chevy Express and 2024 GMC Savana commercial cargo vans, halting production of those variants immediately, which may have impacted sales this quarter. Fortunately, production is back on track for both GM vans.
On a positive note, to date GM has sold more than 3 million Chevy Express and GMC Savana units.
About GMC Savana
The 2024 GMC Savana arrives with two new transmissions, which are the only changes for the Passenger Van, Cargo Van, and Cutaway configurations. While, initially, the 2024 GMC Savana cargo van dropped the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, it is now available again, joining the atmospheric 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine as the only two powerplants offered on the 2024 Savana. Check out the 2024 GMC Savana towing capacities.
Additionally, 2024 GMC Savana infotainment system upgrades are no longer available, leaving the 2024 Savana with only a single infotainment option, namely the base audio system consisting of the AM/FM stereo with an MP3 player. That system includes an auxiliary jack and two front-door speakers.

Production of the 2025 GMC Savana is currently scheduled for October 7th.

Sure it’s down , big money with very little options
No blueltooth no.more diesel motors,etc
Good!! Been Trying for 3 years to got one , it’s on you!
If they build them they will sell.
“A much-needed overhaul would substantially help GM in this space”
ACTUALLY HAVING VANS AVAILABLE would substantially help GM in this space!
Yes the current Express is an ancient no-frills platform. So what. When you need a reliable box on wheels it doesn’t need to be fancy.
My company just bought one. The AC compressor died after 4 miles on the odometer! There is no key fob, no blutooth, no usb, and the dash looks like it was made in the year 1999. The only thing that is somewhat nice are the softness of the seats.
Still, there is not a better vehicle on the market. Certainly a little dated, but certainly very functional. I would like lane maintenance, super cruise, better radio and connectivity functions, but it is still a rugged good looking great towing, good handling, really reliable piece of American goodness, that can’t be beat by any of its competition.
A proven sales winner for 30 years but GM is screwing it up by not building enough to meet demand an instead focusing on EV’s and tiny turbos that few people want.
