The Toyota Tacoma remained at the top, although sales were down 24 percent to 47,879 units as it continues to go through a generational changeover, especially for some variants. The Colorado (see running Chevy Colorado sales) took second with a 35 percent to 26,901 units, followed by the Nissan Frontier, now in third place, with a 17 percent uptick to 20,219 units. The Ford Ranger (see running Ford Ranger sales), moved up from the bottom to fourth with a five percent swell to 13,257 units, as it recovers from its own generational changeover. The GMC Canyon (see running GMC Canyon sales), the Colorado’s corporate cousin, stayed in fifth place in spite of a 69 percent jump to 11,351 units, while the Gladiator fell to the bottom of the list with a 24 percent drop in sales for 10,489 deliveries.

The GM Authority Take

Chevy Colorado sales fared even better here halfway through the year, as its generational changeover has already played out. However, that switchover continues to impact sales of the Toyota Tacoma, while the Ford Ranger may be working its way out of it. In spite of any challenges faced by the Tacoma, sales reign supreme year after year.

Even combining sales of the GMC Canyon with the Colorado can’t seem to enable GM to take the crown away from Toyota.

Notably, after GM launched the 2024 Chevy Colorado in South Korea, the first batch sold out in the Asian country within the first week.

About Chevrolet Colorado

In May 2023, GM unveiled the all-new 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, the highly capable off-road midsize pickup truck developed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). For 2024, the ZR2 Bison is offered as a standalone trim level rather than as a package. In addition to a wealth of standard components from AEV, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison also incorporates development input from off-road racing champion Chad Hall and was refined on the Rubicon Trail to boot, adding new features like front and rear jounce control dampers.

The fastest-turning trim level for the third-generation Colorado is the ZR2.

The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, incidentally, gets a standard bed-mounted spare, a new launch control feature, and a new Recovery Package. Its arrival means the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss Special Edition package hasn’t returned for the 2024 model year, indirectly replaced by the Bison.

Furthermore, among the many changes and updates for the new model year, the 2024 Chevy Colorado drops the 8-inch driver information center, replaced by the 11-inch DIC across the lineup, and drops the mid-level Turbo Plus engine, adopting the GM’s new TurboMax engine branding as part of changes and updates for the 2024 model year. That means the 2024 Colorado will offer just the base L2R engine on WT and LT trim levels and the High Output L3B TurboMax engine on all other trims while optional on the WT and LT. On a related note, here are the towing capacities of the 2024 Colorado.

The 2024 Colorado also offers a new Sports Bar Package and new Off-Road Lighting Package, while Trail Boss and ZR2 trim levels now have the option of a new off-road front bumper package for enhanced off-road capability.

Check out everything that’s new and different for the 2024 Chevy Colorado.

Production of the 2025 Chevy Colorado at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri has been pushed back six weeks. It’s now rescheduled to start on December 12th.

  1. The new Tacoma is a total let down

  2. GM will never outsell the Tacoma , and the simple answer is capacity to build.
After over a year on the market most dealers in this area have no inventory , maybe 1 Colorado and 1 Canyon.
In most cases these are preordered and sold when they hit the lots.
These same dealers have tons of full size that they want to sell u, with cash on the hood.
GM could easily sell over 200k Colorados each year , but it never happen with only 1 plant building and shipping to other markets.
I have read before that their full capacity to build is less than150k a year including the Canyon, and this has to cover all of the markets where they sell them .
Gm knows that if they produced the Colorado to meet demand it would bite into full size sales.
This has always been the case with the Colorado since the first and second gen trucks.
I took delivery in early May of my very well equipped Colorado Z71. This replaced my 2016.
The 24 Rado is a great mid size truck that would sell like crazy if there was product available.
At Toyota , the Tacoma is the bread and butter, not the Tundra, so they produce all of the Tacomas they can sell.
