Here Are The 2024 Chevy Colorado Towing Capacities

Standing as the second model year of the Bow Tie brand’s third-generation midsize pickup truck, the 2024 Chevy Colorado introduces a select few updates and changes over the preceding model year, while reintroducing the off-road-focused Colorado ZR2 Bison. Today, we’re taking a closer look at 2024 Chevy Colorado towing capacities.

Before jumping in, here’s a quick review of the powertrain options. The 2024 Colorado is equipped with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R engine developing 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, which is standard fare on the Work Truck (WT) and LT trims. The TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, is standard in the Trail Boss, Z71 and ZR2 variants, optional in the WT and LT.

The Chevy Colorado towing capacities on the ZR2 are slightly comprised.

Both engines are managed by the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission. All trim levels, regardless of drivetrain configuration, utilize a 3.42 axle ratio, while 2WD is standard on WT and LT models, and 4WD is offered across the lineup.

With that, here are 2024 Chevy Colorado towing capacities:

It’s worth mentioning that the 2024 Chevy Colorado boasts the same figures as the 2023 Colorado’s towing capacities. In addition, choosing the ZR2 Bison package doesn’t affect the Colorado ZR2’s 6,000-pound tow limit.

As a reminder, the 2024 Colorado is built at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. Riding on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, the third-gen Colorado shares the same platform as the third-gen GMC Canyon.

  1. What is tow capacity of Z71 model without Z82 from factory but adding a hitch afterwards? Same as 7700 or less?

  2. The Silverado truck and the Colorado truck both with the same 4 cylinder turbo engine (Turbo Plus or Turbo Max), the same 8 speed automatic transmission, and the same gear ration in the differential…how come one can pull 9,000 lbs. and the other has the max towing set at 7,700 lbs. WHY????? Does one have a better cooling system than the other? Or is it the braking system that makes the difference? Please tell me why one will pull 9,000 and the other is limited to 7,700.

  3. Easy the GVWR is more on the Silverado vs. Colorado. (Weight of vehicle and payload to include passengers)
