Here Is The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison: Video

General Motors just unveiled the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, showing off an all-new, highly capable off-road midsize pickup truck developed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). The debut of the new Colorado ZR2 Bison follows the launch of the third-gen Chevy Colorado for the 2023 model year, and builds on the already capable Colorado ZR2 with even more of that trail-ready good stuff. Like the Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison and Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 Bison, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison was purpose-built for off-road enthusiasts.

In addition to a wealth of standard components from AEV, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison also incorporates development input from off-road racing champion Chad Hall, and was refined on the Rubicon Trail to boot.

Outside, we see a new AEV heavy duty front bumper with provisions for a winch, which is matched to an AEV rear bumper and AEV fender flares. Under the flares is a set of AEV 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels wrapped in segment-exclusive 35-inch OD Mud/Terrain tires. A Chevy Flowtie front badge, Bison exterior badging, and race-inspired tire carrier complete the look.

Underbody protection includes a Boron steel skid plates and rocker protectors, while segment-exclusive Multimatic front and rear Jounce Control Dampers and DSSV dampers upgrade the suspension. Off-road specs include 12.2 inches of ground clearance, as well as a 38.2-degree approach angle, 26-degree departure angle, and 26.9-degree breakover angle, all of which Chevy claims as best-in-class.

Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison runs the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, specifically the Turbo High-Output variant rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Output is sent through the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission, as well as a two-speed transfer case and power-locking front and rear differentials.

Inside, there’s an 11.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a selection of safety and driver assist features too.

An official on-sale date for the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison has yet to be announced, but it’s expected to drop in some time later this year.

  1. Dislike the tire in the back, but thats the trade off since you cant put it down below. Is there no unique color for it? Is there no price for it yet? Be nice to have to compare. With the tire in the back how much slower is this truck?

  2. Another dumb, ugly truck.

  3. No V8, no care.

    1. No V-8 in a truck of this size from any manufacturer that I can think of. The bigger engine will be in the Silverado

      1. Wrangler 392 is an off-roader truck/SUV, has better break-over, is expensive. It’s just not a pickup truck.

        1. fair enough. I think of that 392 as a bigger beast but I do see comparison between that and the Colorado and the Ford Bronco raptor. 392 twice the price as the Colorado

      2. What I think Chevy should do the Colorado ZR2 Bison , would be to add the twin turbo 3.0 V6 used in the Caddie SV 4 as an option, To compete with Ford Ranger Raptor 3.0 ! What do y’all think ?

  4. Good to see the Bison have significant AEV uprgrades/differentiation vs the ZR2 and it is flat out superior and more capable than any midsize offerings from Ford or Toyota. I imagine it will be $60k+, which isn’t cheap, but to get a comparable Taco, Ranger, or Jeep with similar after market upgrades would cost more. If this was offered with the 3.0 liter diesel, I’d replace my modified 2020 ZR2 Duramax today.

    1. I Agree 3.0 diesel would of been the ticket.

      1. There’s still time for GM to add it. Especially after seeing the hybrid from Toyota. The 3.0 would be a difference maker.

    2. The 3.0L is too long, won’t fit under the hood!

      1. What about putting v6 supercharged ?!?

  5. At the rate trucks built in February are leaving the factory lot, we’ll see these in 2026 if we are lucky.

    1. Holy smokes, no way this must be a imposter, common sense dissing general motors, holy smokes the piggies are flying you actually finally get it. Here’s the problem I gave you a comparison about car manufactures. Here’s what I think GM should do. It’s quite obvious that GM cannot keep up with their production and do it with giving customer service, so what they should do is limit the production of certain models. This way they can put up a quality vehicle and service the customer, but only put out limited amount much like Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, etc., and that will solve the problem let’s face it since Covid that’s what Jim is doing because much like Porsche and the European models about 90% of those vehicles are all custom orders the other 10% the dealership configures and puts them on the floor and once they’re gone, they’re gone until the next production run just a food for thought

  7. This is a great truck with all the upgrades but I need answers from GM Authority:

** Does it have the 3:73 final drive minimum will be required or 4:11?
    3:43 ain’t gonna cut it.
The HD ZR2 Bison comes with a upgraded final drive and it’s got massive power.
If they don’t include this it will be a very expensive upgrade to a very expensive truck that’s going to have a hard time without it on 35’s.

** Are the DSSV dampers upgraded from the standard ZR2?
More weight and more lift would require it.

** 1.5 inch more lift than the standard ZR2 but 1 inch of that comes from the tires 33 to 35. So they lifted it .5 inch?

** I would by this to replace my current ZR2 Duramax if it had the 3.0 Diesel. I’m not sure the 2.7 will cut it especially if they don’t change the final drive ratio. Is the 3.0 a no go since it’s a inline 6 and too long?
My Duramax 2.8 has 450 torque with a California smog legal tune.
    Any chance?

AEV bumper should have included the built in recovery points that the AVE HD has. The stock red ones are recessed in to far for a lot of applications like high lift jack with a shackle etc…

Is the 3.0 a no go since it’s a inline 6 and too long? The 2.7 has more torque than the 2.8 diesels in the old Colorado. There was never even a consideration for the 3.0 in this truck, they probably didn’t even measure to see if it would fit, since it was never an option.
