The GMC Sierra pickup truck is the most popular choice among GM vehicles qualifying for Costco Canada’s Spring 2023 incentive, the retailer reports.
Running from March 1st to May 1st, 2023, the incentive gives Costco Canada members a $750 discount on a qualified purchase or lease of certain new Chevy, GMC or Cadillac 2022 or 2023 model-year vehicles. The GMC Sierra is topping the charts with only a few weeks remaining in the promotion.
The Costco Auto Program general manager, Jay Woodcock, provided statistic detail about the incentive, stating that “the GMC Sierra represents more than 52 percent of vehicles purchased through our Limited-Time Savings event.” He added that “truck has been very popular during our promotions with GM Canada.”
The GMC Sierra’s popularity is highlighted by the fact the two model years offered – the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 and the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 – accounted for half of claimed discounts while being only one of seven models included in the program. The full list of GM models eligible for the $750 discount is as follows:
- 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500
- 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500
- 2022 Chevy Tahoe
- 2023 Chevy Tahoe
- 2022 Chevy Suburban
- 2023 Chevy Suburban
- 2022 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2023 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2022 GMC Yukon
- 2023 GMC Yukon
- 2022 GMC Yukon XL
- 2023 GMC Yukon XL
- 2023 Cadillac Escalade
- 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV
The GMC Sierra is clearly the leading nameplate by popularity. However, previous statements by Jay Woodcock indicate the Chevy Silverado is also a popular choice, though not on the scale of the Sierra.
As a reminder, the 2023Â GMC Sierra is notable for offering both a new trim level and a new powerplant. In regard to the trim, the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition arrived as the GMC Sierra with the highest number of off-road features. The “regular” 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X also received new equipment from the AEV Edition.
Turning to the greasy portions of the vehicle, the 2023 Sierra 1500 debuts the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax in place of the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. The new diesel is rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
Other available powerplants include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet, and the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horses and 460 pound-feet. The L3B is paired with the GM eight-speed automatic transmission, while the GM 10-speed automatic pairs with the L84, L87, and LZ0.
The 2023 GMC Sierra is built on the GM T1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.

Ok, not sure this is news given that the Sierra is the top selling GM vehicle in Canada by a considerable margin (20% more than the Silverado in 2022).
Why, in the above photo of the tailgate, does it say “DENIAL” instead of “DENALI”?
No on the photo i see!!
$750 on a truck whose average transaction price is $59,000 doesn’t seem like much of a deal.
