The 2022 GMC Sierra sees the reintroduction of the Light Duty Sierra 1500 Limited model as a stop-gap measure ahead of the release of the face-lifted Sierra 1500 model. Meanwhile, the Heavy Duty Sierra 2500HD and Sierra 3500HD models receive small changes and updates.

2022 Sierra Light-Duty
2022 Sierra 1500
The 2022 Sierra 1500 receives a mid-cycle refresh, including the addition of the first-ever Sierra Denali Ultimate and AT4X trim levels, an updated exterior and interior, new technology – such as Super Cruise – an enhanced high-output 2.7L L3B I4 engine and more capable 3.0L LM2 I6 engine, plus much more.
2022 Sierra 1500 Limited
The 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited sees the following changes from the 2021 Sierra 1500:
Model Line
- Base Sierra 1SA trim level renamed to Pro
Interior
- Deletion of single-zone air conditioning (C67)
- Deletion of HD radio option
- Rear heated seats have moved to an available option on SLT, AT4 and Denali trim levels
Mechanical
- Deletion of the 4.3L LV3 V6 engine
- Deletion of the 5.3L L82 V8 engine
- Consequent deletion of E85 FlexFuel capability
- Deletion of 6-speed automatic transmission (MYC)
- 2.7L L3B Turbo I4 engine is now standard on base Pro 1SA trim level
- 5.3L EcoTec3 L84 V8 engine is now available on base Pro 1SA trim level
- 5.3L EcoTec3 L84 V8 engine is not available on AT4 trim level
- Duramax Turbo-Diesel 3.0L LM2 I6 engine is now standard on AT4 trim level
- Battery, heavy-duty 730 cold-cranking amps/80 Amp-hr is now standard on base Pro (1SA) trim level
- LT275/65R18C MT blackwall Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires (R3O) are standard on AT4

2022 Sierra Heavy Duty
The 2022 Sierra HD sees minor model year changes for both the Sierra 2500HD and Sierra 3500HD, including:

- Base Sierra trim renamed to Pro trim, retains 1SA RPO code designation
Exterior:
- Deletion of two exterior colors
- Addition of one new exterior color
- Addition of 20-inch (50.8 cm) machined face aluminum with high gloss Black accents and beadlock appearance (SQ9)
- LPO-level item
- Mirror code (DLF) changes to (DLN)
Interior:
- Addition of Seat Belt Adjustable Guide Loops

- The 2022 Sierra Light Duty rides on the GM T1 platform shared most directly with the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. The same basic architecture is also used on the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, 2021 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and 2021 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
- The 2022 Sierra Heavy Duty rides on a more capable version of the same GM T1 platform

Beyond 2022
We expect the following outlook for the Sierra beyond the 2022 model year:
- The light-duty Sierra 1500, in its fourth generation as of the 2019 model year, is expected remain in production thru the 2025 model year
- The heavy-duty Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD, in their fourth generation as of the 2020 model year, are expected to remain in production thru the 2026 model year
An all-new, next-generation Sierra will launch after the aforementioned models reach the end of their respective lifecycles.
