Refresh Highlights

Model Line

Introduction of the all-new Silverado ZR2 model expands the model lineup with an off-road enhanced trim level. Powered exclusively by the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 engine with a rating of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

The off-road-capable truck is also fitted with MultiMatic DSSV dampers which have been paired with uniquely-tuned springs in an effort to increase maximum front and rear suspension travel. Other enhanced hardware includes:

  • Front and rear e-lockers
  • Specific off-road chassis and suspension calibrations
    • Includes Terrain Mode, which allows one-pedal rock crawling
  • 33-inch off-road MT tires
  • Unique skid plate package
  • New high-approach steel front bumper designed for off-road strength
    • Enables an improved 31.8-degree approach angle
    • Silverado ZR2 also boasts 11.2 inches of ground clearance, with a break over angle of 23.4 degrees, and a departure angle of 23.3 degrees

Exterior

On the outside, a new front fascia and grille design lowers the headlamps, emphasizing the Silverado’s confidence-inspiring stance which invokes a sense of strength and stability. On LT models and above, the wing-shaped daytime running lamps that were introduced in 2019 are revised and feature animated lighting sequences when approaching, starting or walking away from the vehicle.

The pickup truck retains its sturdy, roll-formed high-strength-steel construction of the bed floor, which offers a class-leading 89.1 cubic feet of standard cargo bed volume. There are also 12 standard tie-downs, more than any competitor, and innovative features such as the available and industry-first power up/down tailgate and the available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate.

Three new exterior colors are offered with the refreshed 2022 Silverado: Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and a vibrant Glacier Blue Metallic. Notably, the new blue hue was named by the Chevy Truck Legends group.

Interior & Technology

2022 Silverado 1500 LT trim levels and above get a completely overhauled cabin space, which includes a standard 13.4-inch color touchscreen. Meanwhile, a 12.3-inch configurable instrument cluster is standard on all models equipped with the updated interior, as is a range of Google-powered features, such as Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as well, while an optional electronic shift control feature is offered with most trim levels.

Other tech features include the addition of Chevy Safety Assist, which is standard on all enhanced trim levels. Notably, the 2022 Chevy Silverado will also offer assisted trailering capabilities, and the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver-assist system is available for the High Country trim level.

Mechanical

Under the hood, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine was revised resulting an increased output with 20 percent more torque, meaning the turbo-four-cylinder engine now produces 420 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm, which is a 72-pound-feet increase compared to the previous model’s 348 pound-feet. The 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax also gets greater towing, up to 13,300 pounds.

Notably, the refreshed 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers the following engine and transmission choices carried over from the 2021 model year:

Engine Fuel Aspiration Transmission Horsepower @ RPM Torque @ RPM Axle Ratio
2.7L L3B I4 Gasoline Turbocharged 8-Speed Automatic (MQE) 310 @ 5600 430 @ 3000 3.42
5.3L L84 EcoTec3 V8 Gasoline Atmospheric 2WD 8-Speed Automatic (MQE) / 4WD 10-Speed Automatic (MQB) 355 @ 5600 383 @ 4100 3.42
6.2L L87 EcoTec3 V8 Gasoline Atmospheric 10-Speed Automatic (MQB) 420 @ 5600 460 @ 4100 3.23
3.0L LM2 Duramax I6 Diesel Turbocharged 10-Speed Automatic (MQB) 277 @ 3750 460 @ 1500 3.23

Production

Production of the 2022 Silverado 1500 will commence during the first quarter of 2022.

As of 2019, Silverado 1500 models have been assembled at the Silao plant in Mexico and the Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, USA.

Additionally, the Oshawa plant in Canada is currently only building Chevrolet Silverados. Production began with the Silverado HD in November. In the spring of 2022, Oshawa will begin producing Silverado 1500s, timed with the launch of the refreshed model announced earlier this year. This will make Oshawa the only GM plant to exclusively produce Silverado models, and the only plant making both light and heavy duty trucks.

Availability

Order books for the refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 will open in December, GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with the matter.

Beyond 2022

We expect the fourth-generation Silverado 1500 to remain in production through the 2025 model year.

An all-new, next-generation Chevy Silverado will most likely launch after the 2025 model year.
