Chevy Traverse Running At Four Days Supply As Of March 2022

Chevy Traverse national supply remained at a mere four days as of the beginning of March 2022, GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with GM’s inventory situation. This is the same as it was back in January 2022. Scarcity at dealer lots is the result of Traverse production being idled throughout parts of 2021 and 2022.

That four-day Traverse supply was also the same during December 2021, down from 11 days supply in November 2021. That was up from six days at the beginning of October 2021, which was up from a nearly non-existent two days supply at the beginning of August 2021. As a reminder, the optimal figure for the U.S. auto industry is 60 days.

The extremely low supply of the Chevy Traverse is the result of the GM Lansing Delta Township plant that produces the Traverse being idled on July 19th, 2021 due to the ongoing global semiconductor microchip shortage that GM has predicted will ease later in 2022. As a result, Traverse production restarts kept getting pushed back throughout 2021, with the changeover to the 2022 model year production taking place the week of October 25th. However, production was idled again after the start of the new year, on January 3rd, 2022 as GM makes provisions to build the next-gen GMC Acadia at the facility.

Chevy Traverse sales have continued to suffer as a result of ongoing inventory shortages stemming from the aforementioned production delays. Traverse sales slipped seven percent to 116,250 units in 2021, placing fourth among nearly a dozen entries with a nine percent segment share, down two percentage points. Sales of the Bow Tie brand’s full-size crossover underperformed the segment last year, which grew nine percent to 1.24 million units.

GM initially planned to refresh the Chevy Traverse for the 2021 model year, but delayed the launch of the updated model due to complications brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. The refreshed model features various updates to the exterior such as restyled front and rear fascias, three new exterior colors, and several new wheel designs.

The all-new front fascia of the 2022 Chevy Traverse consists of a new grille and a set of standard LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and turn signals. Below them are the vehicle’s primary forward lighting elements (the actual headlights). The design motif takes after the 2019 Chevy Blazer, which the Bow Tie brand previously stated would inspire the design of all of Chevy utilities. The 2022 Traverse also gets a set of revised LED taillights that give it a more modern appearance.

Inside, the 2022 Traverse features a new, optional eight-inch infotainment display and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Additionally, the refreshed Traverse will now offer six new standard safety features: Automatic Emergency BrakingFront Pedestrian BrakingForward Collision AlertLane Keep Assist with Lane Departure WarningIntelliBeam auto high beams and a Following Distance Indicator. Additionally, a new Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control system will be offered on the LT Leather (3LT), RS and Premier trims, while GM’s Safety Alert Seat will become standard on Premier and High Country models.

What’s more, the base L trim level of the Traverse has been dropped, making the LS the new base model. Finally, the Redline Edition package will be offered on the 2022 Chevy Traverse as it was for the 2021 model year, available exclusively on the Premier trim level.

All versions of the large, three-row crossover utility are powered by the same naturally-aspirated 3.6 V6 LFY engine producing 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. GM’s 9-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, while all-wheel drive is optional.

The update seems to have been well-received, as Consumer Reports recently listed the 2022 Chevy Traverse among the best new crossovers available for under $40,000.

  1. At almost 100k, our 2019 LT has performed flawlessly. With the auto market so crazy, we might make this one last to 200k, or until we can replace it with an electric one.

    1. I think you ought to consider putting in an order for a new Traverse before you hit 100,000 miles (much harder for a dealer to resell six digit mileage cars) and trading in your old one, with the currently prices of used cars you’d get the new one at almost break even for what you’d be getting for your old one.

Even if it’s a few thousand dollars more it will be a new vehicle.

This was not possible in other markets. Take advantage of the current market

    2. The traverse is awesome! Bought my wife a 2020 Premier, we now have about 25,000 miles on it. The 3.6 engine has incredible power, I was pleasantly surprised when I pushed down the gas pedal. Might look into trading for a new, now that the have all the lane changing and front braking, adaptive cruise added. 😁

  2. We tried to place an order for a Premier level Traverse in early February and the order still has not been accented yet. Unbelievable that GM is still in business with so much incompetence in the managerial ranks. Exactly how long am I supposed to wait? You would think a company would want to satisfy a potential customer, but I guess as long as GM can live off government subsidies, they really don’t care about potential customers.

    1. Good luck getting one. The options have become very limited and wait times are four months.
I ordered a car in January 2022 and they just informed me that I can’t get the color that I want. A day later they told me that I can only get black interior. I’m looking at other manufacturers and models now.

      1. Put our order in May 2021. Had all the forced changes you had with an original delivery date of October 2021. Emails every month from August till January pushing the delivery date out a month. Emails stopped and still don’t have a delivery date. Not a hardship but gotta wonder why GM would rather f*ck a corp account than be straight with us?

  3. I’m not sure how or why but I placed an order for a Premier trim Traverse 2022 optioned to my liking, and even modified it within two days from putting down my deposit and it arrived in a month and a half. Just came in this past Monday and I picked it up on Wednesday.

I really am enjoying the Traverse

  4. We ordered our 2022 Traverse October 3. Here it is April 22 and once again we received notice that we are “possibly” looking at mid-May for delivery. No trucks? No railroad cars to load? Come on GMC-start working to transport these cars so your dealerships can, once again, do business and we can FINALLY get our “new” car!

    1. I ordered mine late September and built in 3rd week of February and I’m in the same boat, but I haven’t even heard a possible Mid-May. Giving them 2 weeks before cancelling the order all together.

      1. My wife and I bought a 2022 Traverse 1LS AWD, Silver Ice Metallic, Midnight Edition back in November. the truck was marked as “In Transit” on the website found out later that apparently meant it was built but sitting in a lot in Lansing MI waiting on a chip. although the dealer ship kept telling us it was on hold waiting for a truck…

  5. I’m literally in the same boat I’m trying to figure out what’s the delay on my car I was supposed to have it at the end of march

  6. GM has built thousands of them, they are parked at several lots around southeast Michigan (summit place mall lot, Palace of Auburn Hills lot). They are not waiting chips. GM has not released them to the trucking companies. They are just sitting, waiting. The one we ordered has been sitting at summit place for almost 2 months. It is done, ready to go. If you look on Chevrolet.com at the Traverse inventory there are hundreds (thousands?) “in transit”. GM has no answers.
