The GM Authority Take
GM Mexico sales saw a dramatic, triple-digit sales increase in May. The results represent the second consecutive month of sales growth in the Latin American country after a 121 percent jump in April.
Each of the company’s four brands posted triple-digit growth rates during May, led by the the Cadillac luxury division and the Buick premium brand. The positive performance in April and May was enough to turn around GM Mexico sales volume during the first five months of 2021.
The vast majority of GM models offered in Mexico posted healthy sales gains in May, including the typical best-sellers – the Chevrolet Aveo and Beat, which finished as GM’s first and second best-selling models in the country, respectively. Meanwhile, the models to post the largest sales gains were The General’s full-size SUVs – the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, along with the GMC Yukon. Cumulatively, the four nameplates – which are all-new for the 2021 model year – posted a 500 percent growth rate compared to May 2020.
Additionally, the new Chevrolet Onix, Tracker and Captiva also posted healthy sales figures in May. With the trio, GM has begun to renew its local vehicle portfolio to continue fighting for the sales leadership in Mexico.
