2021 Chevrolet Silverado Changes, Updates, New Features

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado receives quite a few changes and updates for the Light Duty (Silverado 1500) model, as well as the Silverado Heavy Duty (2500HD, 3500HD) and Silverado Medium Duty (Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, 6500HD) models.

2021 Chevy Silverado 1500

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 receives the following updates and changes:

Model Line

  • CC10743 2WD Crew Cab Standard Bed model is no longer available on Custom, RST, LTZ or High Country models
  • CC10753 2WD Double Cab Standard Bed model is no longer available on RST or LTZ models
  • CK10753 4WD Double Cab Standard Bed model is no longer available on LTZ models

Exterior

  • Deletion of two exterior colors
    • Havana Brown Metallic
    • Cajun Red Tintcoat
  • Addition of three exterior colors
    • Mosaic Black Metallic
    • Oxford Brown Metallic
    • Cherry Red Tintcoat
  • Deletion of manual tailgate with EZ Lift
    • For the 2021 model year, LT models come standard with a manual tailgate with EZ Lift as well as power lock and release
  • Deletion of 20-inch x 9-inch painted aluminum with machined face and Gray accent pocket wheels (NZT)
  • 20-inch x 9-inch Black painted aluminum wheels (RD5) are now free flow on Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss models
  • 20-inch x 9-inch Polished finish wheels (RD2) are now standard on LTZ
    • For the 2020 model year, these wheels were only included on LTZ models equipped with the following packages:
      • LTZ Premium Package
      • Z71 Off-Road and Protection Package
  •  Sunroof no longer available on LT models

Interior

  • Deletion of front 40/20/40 split bench seat
  • Addition of Carpeted floor liners
  • Addition of Wireless Phone Projection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Deletion of USB port located on instrument panel
    • 2 USB ports on instrumental panel are now standard on Work Truck, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss models
  • SiriusXM is now available on Work Truck models and standard on Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, and LT Trail Boss models
  • OnStar is now standard on Custom and Custom Trail Boss models
  • Improved towing technology features

    • 20-inch aluminum wheels with Argent metallic pockets (RD4)
    • Additional content varies by model
  • Addition of Texas Edition Plus, which includes:

  • Convenience Package with Bucket Seats is now standard on LT Trail Boss models, and includes:
    • Bucket seats
    • Center console,
    • Dual-zone automatic climate control
    • 10-way power driver seat including power lumbar
    • Heated driver and passenger seats
    • Heated steering wheel
    • Manual tilt/telescoping steering column
    • Crew Cab models include Cloth Rear Seat with Storage Package
    • Leather seats require Leather Package and includes Up-level Rear Seat with Storage Package
    • For the 2020 model year, this package was available (not standard) for RST and LT Trail Boss models
  • LTZ Plus Package is now standard on LTZ models and includes:
    • LTZ Convenience Package:
      • Bucket seats with center console
      • Heated and ventilated front seats
      • Rear sliding power window
      • Universal Home Remote
      • 2 USB ports with auxiliary input
      • Power up/down tailgate
      • Crew Cab models include rear heated seats
    • Safety Package
      • Front and Rear Park Assist
      • Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
      • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • The following is now standard on LT and RST models
    • All Star Edition
    • Convenience Package
    • Trailering Package
    • Auto-locking rear differential
  • Deletion of Texas Edition
    • In 2020, the package was available for LT and RST models
  • Deletion of LT Value Package
  • Deletion of RST Value Package
  • Deletion of LTZ Texas Edition
  • Deletion of Remote Start Package
  • Deletion of (XFE) Fuel Economy Package
  • Deletion of Trailer Camera Package

2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD & 3500HD

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD introduced the GM T1 platform to the HD nameplate, representing a complete overhaul (redesigned and re-engineered) from the ground up. For the 2021 model year, the Silverado HD receives the following changes:

Exterior

  • Deletion of two exterior color options
  • Addition of two exterior color options
  • Addition of Bright power-retractable assist steps
  • New LPO-level wheel sets
  • Manual tailgate with EZ Lift, power lock and release is now standard on LT models

Interior

  • Deletion of front 40/20/40 split bench seat
  • Addition of Carpeted floor liners
  • Addition of Wireless Phone Projection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Addition of Inside rearview mirror with partial video display
  • Addition of Bed View Camera
  • Front 40/20/40 split-bench with upper covered armrest storage is now standard on Work Truck and Custom models
  • USB ports (x2) located on instrument panel now standard on Work Truck and Custom trim levels
  • SiriusXM is now available on Work Truck models and standard on LT models

Mechanical

  • Addition of E85 FlexFuel capability

Packages

  • Addition of Carhartt Special Edition
  • Addition of Safety Confidence Package
  • Addition of Duramax and Appearance Package on LT models
  • Addition of Z71 Sport Edition for LT and LTZ models
  • Addition of Z71 Chrome Sport Edition

2021 Chevy Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, & 6500HD

The Silverado Medium Duty pickup was introduced for the 2019 model year, and received a few minor changes for the 2020 model year. As such, the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado MD receives a few updates and changes, including:

Mechanical

  • Addition of StabiliTrak, which is standard on all models
  • Neutral-at-Stop is now standard
  • Addition of FuelSense 2.0 transmission shift control calibration
  • Upfitter switch kit is now standard
  • Exhaust brake is now standard
  • Addition of an Open rear axle, non-locking rear as a standard feature
  • Addition of Axle, limited slip, Dana Spicer as an available option
